Bea, my problem is that the tree is next to my screened lanai. It needs to be pruned away from it as I'm afraid it will rip the screens. The tree is taller than the lanai roof. The dam squirrels run up my screens and jump on the tree. The birds fly on it and peck away at the fruit. They knock many down to the ground and the ground birds come and eat those as do the squirrels. Its like a battlefield out there.

It might work if the tree wasn't so close to my screened lanai. I also get raccoons who storm the tree at night. I hear them and its scary.

Oh well, I still think its a grand idea and you should sell them.

Darn it Jane. You need to plant a second on and make sure it's no less than 9 feet from any tree or structure. We found out through trial and error that squirrels can't jump that far. So all our fruit trees and bird feeders are at least that far from the trees, the shed and the house.

You are right. It’s too close. However, it was here when we bought the house, seven years ago. It was a little tree, the trunk about 6 ft away. But the spread of the canopy is huge. The branches are laying on the top of the screening. Animals don’t even have to jump!

I’m in the process of finding an arborist to give me advice about cutting it back. It’s such a beautiful tree, in the wrong place. Sad...
