It was really windy Thursday around Moab. On our way up 191 saw one tractor trailer blown over and another commercial trailer toppled. Both looked like they happened minutes before we drove by. Made me nervous that something might tip over onto the car. Glad we broke camp that morning and were heading to a hotel.

Yeah! Last week was really BAD here in Denver! My television kept blowing away! Not the TV set! The PICTURE!

A couple times over winter I had thought about how we had been having very little wind this year--but last week WAY made up for it! (And let's hope the "storm" coming up on Friday/Saturday helps to Make Up for all the precip we didn't get over winter!)

It died down to a dull roar overnight, but it’s already picked up this morning. AND it’s supposed to get to the low 20s tonight, so bye-bye fruit trees for yet another year. Sure hope I’m wrong!

Two big ravens are wind surfing and putting on an impressive air show for me. They seem to be having a fine time,even when they get blown almost upside down!

Ah, another day of dry gusting wind here. There are pieces of my garden all over the neighborhood already. But most things survive even if they look battered.

Uh-oh! I think maybe you need heavier vests! A little while ago I saw another one go by! Every now and then, with the weight of the vest, this one was bouncing along the ground! Hopefully a nice farmer in Kansas will find it and adopt it!

the rocking chairs on the front porch have rocks in the seats so they don't blow of the porch i'm a gardner and all the plants that aren't in pots (so i can turn them around) are leaning.... the pots blow off the breezeway unless they have a lot of rocks in the bottom....however wind is nice in summer when the mosquitoes are eating you alive.....

Well, where we are, there is no water this year, so maybe we will be spared the mosquitoes at least. Good luck with your rock-ing chairs!

Part of my pergola on my deck came down in the wind today, bounced off the table, and I lost one of my favorite clay pots. Sometimes it's hard to fathom that I can have a hundred clay pots yet have a favorite, but I do! It was a vintage rolled-rim terra cotta pot made in Italy. I'm so sad! It was a bit like this. I hate the wind!

Wow, you Front Rangers had a storm. I will try not to whine anymore about mere 40mph winds.....I said “try”. Skybird, thx for all the chicken updates. Amelia and Trixie are safe back home. Somebody slapped some stamps on them and back they came (air mail, of course)

Nothing like the wind in Colorado!

I complain about the wind, all the time. The distant garden is very exposed and must be just the right distance from the hills to the SW, the direction for most of our wind. Working in the garden can be uncomfortable but the plants suffer, day in - day out!

Today in my backyard where the wind usually isn't so bad, we are having 39 mph wind gusts! The sky was clear until about 3pm with air temperatures of about 60ºf. That meant that ventilation was needed for the greenhouse, hoop house and the little hoopy on the lawn. Working at some repotting in the greenhouse was a chaotic experience! I will have to "reposition" the hoop house tomorrow but the garden beds are covered well for tonight.

And, that is a very good thing! Freezing again by morning ... maybe we won't be having the wind and freezing temperatures at the same time. I don't have fruit trees but the cherries in the neighborhood are trying to bloom. My problem will be keeping plants in that 8' by 20' hoop house from freezing. The hoop house "breathes" if it's windy. A layer of plastic film isn't very much protection if it's ballooning out every other minute. Fortunately, whatever frost-tender plants are in there have been there a few days so they are used to 50º nights, not greenhouse 60º nights. My little electric heater and fan better work and I'll have to pay attention to the thermometer to be sure they do. Ugh !

being out in the wind is sooo exhausting and even a moderate wind 18 to 20 mph is tiring..

I’m sorry everyone, I think the wind may have been my fault! I was just saying to my husband that we didn’t get any really bad wind storms this winter!

Christmas Day in 2016 the wind picked up our Home Depot shed, destroying the fence and depositing in (in about 20 pieces) in the neighbor’s yard. When I talked with my neighbor about it later, he said that when the neighborhood was first built in the mid nineties, all of the houses with west-facing garage doors had to have them replaced with double-thick doors because the wind destroyed them all! Holy mackerel.

This last storm on Tuesday destroyed my newly created “mud kitchen” that I made for my dad lay group, tearing off lattice and knocking over heavy trex benches.

That was some crazy wind last week for sure! Trampolines ended up in nearby creeks and cushions, furniture, and trash bins were everywhere. Sorry to hear about the broken vintage pot :(

On the upside, most of our catalpa pods finally blew down so I won't have to get my daily exercise by cleaning up catalpa pods (from our 4 street trees) until next year.
