Wow, beautiful foyer/hall and very impressive dogs. I have three labrador retrievers who'd be IN the pool all the time I think.

A bachelor farmer friend of mine has a Rottweiler who collects things. If he sees something that he likes he takes it to his dog bed. One day there were nylons draped around his dog bed. Which we thought was hilarious, teasing our friend if these were his nylons etc. But in fact the dog had stolen them from the neighbour's washing line :-)

Hi Christina, Do you think you might take Sandy's suggestion and take the yellow chair out of the room for awhile and look at and "feel" the room again ?

I think that the yellow chair brings a sunny side to the room it give it a personality ...one of happiness if I may :) and the green vase brings a touch of nature in the room as well ,this is a perfect choice of furniture and colours .

Cute story Carolins. I used to have a Golden Retreiver that brought items home at times. I actually think the painting in this room would look better Christina if you painted the walls Antique white or some other white. Because it would make it more of a wow factor and still look very nice with your other furnishings. With the current wall color, it makes the painting seem very bland and ho hum. Or you could get more colorful photography or another painting.

I love the "not a peep curtains" that were suggested above.

I think a soft, butter yellow on the walls would make the painting pop, then a stronger yellow trellis design for the full-width draperies on a traverse rod hung up to the ceiling would give some height to offset all the other same-height furnishings. How about a bright yellow garden stool for the plant to sit on. I love that yellow lamp Genevieve posted, on a side table across the room from the yellow chair.

I think the "not a peep" draperies shown earlier would bring the height of the room down, due to the very dark color on the top.

Beautiful room! I love your color choices! I think the artwork and lighting is throwing it off a bit. The sconces seem a little to close to the corner of the room. To remedy you could try moving them and making them slightly larger (more vertical) or adding complimentary art in the dead space between the sconces and existing art. Leave the existing art and add smaller vertical art flanking either side. Maybe 2 mirrors?

I think you need a few yellow pillows. More art on each side of the large painting. An end table next to the chair. Candlesticks moved on the left side of the credenza, and more space between them. Add a few more accessories to the top. Soft yellow paint for walls.

Sarah, it's difficult for me to move the light sconces. There was one in the middle where picture is now. The room used to be a media room/ den for my kids when they were young for sleepovers. I am getting them removed, but it's not something I want to tackle myself. I agree, they don't work with the room now.

Have you considered putting mirrors behind the glass doors in your credenza or even plain paper/cloth?

Love the new room! I would add one more vase or low bowl next to the other one on the credenza.

Light sconces, It's usually costly to install electical. Since you have electrical on the wall, maybe you could move the electrical to one on each side of the artwork (lower). Place the yellow lamp on a chair end table? Etagere in left corner near credenza raised higher on a stand. - but still like the room as is!! :))

Room is beautiful - you've done a great job with your colour/fabric choices. Love the yellow chair - try to find coordinating yellow curtains. Paint the credenza a distressed yellow. Artwork is fabulous - add some yellow accents inside the credenza. Add a yellow accent pillow (same fabric as yellow chair) to the chair beside the round stool.

I think you're room looks great as a whole!! Gorgeous chair btw - a mirror on the empty wall would be fantastic with a small cocktail table and a couple of small charming baskets (wickered or chipped/antiqued) instead of the side table, you can put that near the other couches. I see that everything is the same shape, so throw something up there like oval or diamond shaped (like a mirror or fun picture) for sure you need curtains, ones that touch the floor and go across the whole window. For curtains - I always loved the look of mixing a bold pattern with a solid. Like a patterned curtain panel with a soft coloured (or dark depending on how you go with the pattern) peeking underneath. And I ADORE throws! Whether is a faux fur or thin one, just makes a room so much more inviting. Gorgeous room once again!!

Looked closer at the credenza, I bet you have some pretty things to add to the books.:)) Separate the stacks. Place binders outward or standing with book ends, (vary the positions in the cabinet). Add some yellow items. or pretty glass or sculptures, Nothing too small.

I think the wall sconces are too far apart! Once you get drapes up and decide on paint, this room will look great!

The yellow lamp across the room from the yellow chair looks really nice. I think the topiary in the corner might be a tad overwhelming--so bushy. Could you trade it for a ficus? More leafy, open.

-- Christina Lowe, nice progress. You seem to be bridging the gap in the yellow colors by choosing a yellow that is in between the two - in the chair a corn yellow and the painting more of a camel. You did a nice job finding the tall greens and that gives the corner a boost. Also like the sconces beside the painting - nice addition because they hold their own but do not compete with the painting.

What DOES compete, however, is the case piece below the painting. You notice this black and white item before you have a chance to see and enjoy the painting.

If you do not want to purchase a new piece, you could do this to tone it down. Install small curtain rods on the inside of each door, top and bottom, and gather little [black] curtains inside to hide the white items in there. They would be pulled tight on the top and bottom rod - are simply rectangles - 2x as wide as the glass - hemed top and bottom - which can be done by hand if necessary. To test this out, simply tape some black/brown paper to the inside of the doors and see the difference. Keep the fabric plain or you will end up with the same problem.

You could also fill the cabinet with dark/black things/books and that would help.

Lamp base is a smart move but would find another shade in charcoal or black - the shade's pattern draws the eye away from the painting.

The art glass vase, although it is lovely, seems lost there. If you want to keep it there, one solution would be to include it in a grouping of books [and I do remember that you are not a fan of clutter!]. Shop for meaningful books though, such as art books, books about family, motherhood, coming of age, etc. Subjects that would relate to your son. . . and the rest of your family, for example. All of a sudden, they are not in the "clutter" category! Nothing wrong with big, old used books either!

My appologies if I said too much here. Just another pair of eyes helping you find that missing piece!

I like the dark credenza, It's fine by me, it works with the chair legs.

I love the colors, I think it's beautiful. If your asking and I would change something I would add a console table behind the sofa with a lamp and maybe some photos and shift the yellow chair to the other side. But honestly it really looks great the way it is. I adore the yellow chair, and it the looks great against the blue sofa.

Do you have an updated pic? Did you receive the fabric?

I think right side is too busy .

You need a basket or a large wooden bowl on the buffet with yellow lemons to bring the yellow theme to that side of the room and to balance the painting and the candlesticks.

So almost a year later and this is how the room looks now. Still haven't found curtains I love! I've tried several but they don't work somehow. The room painted makes it cheerful !

Hi, you have a great room! I was just going through the pictures, and I actually prefer the way you had it at first . Except for the taller plant. And do you think having the art horizontally instead of vertically might take care of the proportion wrt the credenza? I feel the space looks great with no clutter. But the wall above the credenza does look a little bare.
