This is where you can really make a statement for the "style" you want for your room. What style do you want? Your furniture will go with several styles (traditional, country, modern, etc.) Here is a good example of a traditional mantel:

Traditional would be more my style. I have the perfect candle sticks for the space and that floor lamp is a great addition that I hadn't thought of.

Absolutely not what you are asking about, but is that a live fish in the cylindrical bowl? Please do a bit of research on that. I believe that round bowls are really not good for fish; perhaps out of kindness you need to get another home for the little creature to live in?

Lumar, I'm not usually keen on mirrors on fireplaces, but the one in your first picture looks magnificent.

Looking from the fireplace the mirror would reflect the kitchen and into the dining room. the mirror currently hanging is 36 inches. Same size as the clock.

Agree with rearranging furniture first as Beverly laid out. Then consider accessories.

I Really like Beverly's furniture arrangement, this is what I was also thinking would look nice in the room. At the back of the love seat you could add a small console table something like this:

I few throw pillows on your dark furniture would brighten the room up. Perhaps add a pop of color. Teal or turquoise would look nice with your grey and white. Here are some suggestions from the same web site for the console:

My goodness, is that really a live fish? I would for one thing move it away from the fireplace and give it a much larger space, preferably not in the living room. An area rug over your carpet, perhaps tying in with the teal colors of your pillows, if you decide to go in that direction, would also give more life and color to your room. Try esalerugs for transitional rugs in polypropylene which are easy to care for an can even be hosed off outside when they get dirty.

I like Beverly's arrangement for your room. It lets you keep the t.v. and fireplace as one focal point and frees up the windows.

Lovely wall color! I worry about the fish :) That plant stand isn't very sturdy, especially on carpet. Could you move the fish to a more sturdy table top or counter?

I moved the clock..... attempted to incorporate things I had on hand but wasn't using. Neither work sadly, but I plan to keep the art there and add to the mantel. Gordon's Window Decor I like the potted greenery in your first photo. I'd definitely like to add something like that.

The candlesticks could work if there's room to pull them in a little closer to the art and stagger them so they're not lined up. The two urns could work as well. Just pull them in closer to the artwork.
