Drop-in sink and minimum base cabinet width

I'm looking to replace my old double sink with a single bowl. The old sink is self rimming, 33" by 22", sitting on a base cabinet of 34.2 by 22.8 (attachment shows the dimension). However, pretty much everywhere I look, a 33" by 22" single bowl sink would require a minimum base cabinet 36 and up. Is this a new requirement, as the old sink was installed more than 20 years ago? Will I be able to fit in a new one with the same spec?

The Kohler 3821 - 1 is a beautiful 22"x33" single bowl that will drop into that cabinet without a problem.

If your top isn't plastic laminate, you can undermount that sink too.

This is one of the sinks I’m looking at. It’s beautiful. So the recommended minimum cabinet size is not a huge issue ? I’m doing drop in and countertop is granite.

You must look at the SPECS. ....For your sink. Your link or photo did not post. You have been given three above that fit your cabinet.

If you are trying to do an UNDER MOUNT sink, that is different than drop in. And yes, you must pay strict attention to minimum cabinet required.

Sorry, but sink manufacturers write specifications to allow fat plumber hands access to provided clips to be able to tighten them. If you strap your undermounted sink (Hercules Universal Sink Harness or Sink Strap), the clips are eliminated along with the reason for accessing them. The sink is tightened at the bottom which anyone can access no matter how fat their hands. This allows a much smaller sink base cabinet to be utilized than specified.

I rarely advise disregarding manufacturer's specifications/hardware, but clips are a poor method for attaching undermounted sinks. We wouldn't have methacrylate seams in solid surface or thermoforming if fabricators hadn't disregarded manufacturer's specifications. The profit motive births innovation. I'm installing sinks that other fabricators say "Can't be done." There is money to be made doing that.

On a drop in sink as I pictured, I couldn't easily access the clips in the middle of the sides, only the front and rear. Yes, Kohler wanted the side clips installed. Boo hoo; that sink doesn't leak or budge.
