Would love a backsplash like this, but again I don’t know if too much white is bad against these brown dark cabinets

It
depends on what your vision is, but you might want to consider wall tiles that
can add a striking effect and dimension to your wall that costs a lot less than
you might think. Check out some ideas here at that really easy to install: https://www.houzz.com/projects/1262017/kitchen-backsplash.

We are thinking sw sackcloth or wintersweet gray for paint

I think that white would be a bit harsh with the cabinets and flooring you have. Do you have inspiration pictures? I think it would help you to find pictures of kitchens you like that have similarly colored cabinets/flooring to give you a sense of where you want to go. Also, make sure you take countertop and backsplash samples home and put them next to your flooring and cabinets so that you can see how they look next to each other.

I’m struggling because I can’t find inspiration pictures that have dark cabinets unless they are dark and super modern which these cabinets are not. White kitchens are all the rage and all I can seem to find....

Pick your countertop first.

Here are a couple of kitchens with similar tone cabinets:

LG Soprano looks pretty in these pics - scroll down towards the end. Soprano may be a good look with your floors too - get a sample to be sure:

My cabinets are a tad lighter than yours, though I have seen my countertop on darker cabinets:

The busy small tile mosaic backsplash give me a headache - but you may feel differently:) Do not combine a busy backsplash with a busy countertop. Once you have your countertop, look for a tile that compliments both the cabinets and the counter - this is usually a lighter color in the countertop. If you think the white is too stark, look for a bone / cream tone. Do not make the final backsplash decision till the counters are installed - your thoughts might change seeing the big picture.

Take a door with you to a kitchen and bath shop and look at countertop samples. Keep in mind the warm tone of your floor.

I like these but these don’t quite encompass the kitchen I have

This is my my kitchen. We went with a warm light colored granite with an off white crackle tile backsplash.

Nicole, your flooring appears to be a pinky beige. You MUST take that into consideration when you look at countertops. If you are not going to get rid of the floor, your countertops must have some kind of color that will not compete with the pink.

So far, all of your choices will not go with your floor. You must bring home samples and see them in your light in your kitchen.

You can browse Houzz pictures and use the filters to get what you need. Here are some examples I found -- I think you need to work with (not against) your floors.

Yes to what kathi Steele is saying. You just can’t ignore the floors.

My floors are natural hickory & have a pink undertone. My kitchen works great with them.

Is that a skylight or a light? If it's a light I would look into changing it. Lighting can be a game changer when it comes to undertones.

mark_rachel it’s a skylight

Floors are not as pink in person, more beige and brown.

I think it will look fine! Have something similar in my home. I would match the white countertop with a white backsplash.

So what type of lighting do you have in the evening/night?

There are can lights installed around the skylight in that space

We are also opening the wall across from the kitchen to let more natural light in since the dining room has large windows

I think the Aria quartz with a solid light backsplash would look really good. We used to have a white countertop in our last home & it showed EVERYTHING. I need things in my home to look clean even when they are not. The white countertops drove me crazy with every spec of a crumb.
