The floor is a red Vermont slate. Its a great material for this use, durable, beautiful, also has a natural cleft finish so it is not slippery when its wet (but still feels good to walk barefoot)- perfect for the entry of this country home.

Thank you so much Jonathan. I actually wanted slate for my kitchen and thought that the color scheme would be too busy with my cabernet brown, and capixaba granite because I was only familiar with the variegated slate. I had no idea it comes in many colors. GO SLATE!
