If you intend the walls to be a light colour, you could paint soffit, walls and ceiling all the same colour.

Good point Jennifer. It will be a light off white color. Can I use Eggshell for both ceiling and walls? I hesitate to do flat for walls and ceiling because I have young kids, but would rather have one sheen to work with.

Ceilings don't have to use flat paint. In fact, eggshell will reflect more light so it will be a better choice in a darker room.

I painted the bottom the color of the ceiling and the face the color of the walls it seemed to make it less obtrusive,
