Cape Cod Exterior Makeover...color suggestions needed!

My sister and her hubby are giving their adorable Cape Cod a makeover. They’d like to paint the siding an off-white color. They would love everyone’s suggestions as to color palettes that include choices for shutters, trim/gutters, the front door, and the garage doors. Her hubby would like to replace the current door with wood; however, she is not sure that would be the best look. Please feel free to share inspiration pics or mock ups of colors on her home! I would do the garage door in the same color as the siding & remove the fans on the garage doors. The walkway looks too narrow, but that’s another topic ( landscaping ). The only place I could see shutters is on the larger window on the right ( pic right ). Off white siding sounds nice with black or charcoal trim a door in a deep red color,, or black , or almost any other door in a color that appeals to them. Yes, it’s a cute house.

K Laurence, that’s a great point in regard to the shutters! Previously, there were shutters on both windows, so I hadn’t even considered not putting any on the window to the left (in picture). Replacing those panels on the garage door would definitely update the look as well. Your landscaping comment is very valid as well. What are your thoughts on doing a complementary paver on both sides of the existing walk?

Also, I feel like maybe they should paint the storm door the same color they choose for the front door. Thoughts??

I think navy for the siding and garage door, pumpkin for the front door, and white trim would look nice.

white siding, black trim, and a bright color front door would look nice. Landscaping is also needed to complete the package.

other combos,,light color siding, sage green for trim,,teal door

navy for the trim and Azores door,,,,or vice versa

I wouldn't call it a Cape Cod; it has none of the traditional features to qualify as such. What colors can the neighborhood tolerate? Definitely no shutters on the double windows. They might enjoy trying on some colors at major paint company sites.

Very cute house. No shutters on any of the windows please. I'd remove the tree that's too close to the house.

Yes...storm door same color as front door. Agree no shutters...double windows are too big.

Groveraxle, that landscaping looks amazing! I like the entire mock up. I hate to be a pest, but would it be possible to add navy shutters so they can see it both with and without?

Decoenthusiaste, what would you call this style of home? As you can see, my knowledge on that front is limited. ;-) As far as the neighborhood, there are many different colors on homes, mostly all earth tones, but some are deep and more saturated. Their property is rather shaded. There is a large oak tree in the right side of the front yard that you cannot see in the pic. They were thinking some version of white since there is so much shade.

Suggestions for shade loving grass types (if such a thing exists) or shade loving plants for the front would be great as well. They’ve tried hydrangeas and knock out roses and neither grew because dappled sunlight for part of the day is about all the yard gets once the leaves come in on the trees.

This is the only window that can really accept shutters, and I don't think they add anything to the house.

Agreed, Groveraxle! They’ll also be getting a new shingle roof. I like the weathered wood color shingles. Thoughts?
