Yes to great landscaping. A new front door would help. Good luck.

The added dimension of a front porch would make a huge impact on the curb appeal and architectural value of your home! Add a new wood front door with a couple of bronze light fixtures on either side, and a pop of color with accessories would help to update the look.

The following would be a great color palette to shoot for. Keep your brick, continue with white trim, and add some natural wood for the porch and/or front door, and a deep navy in shutters and/or pots for plants.

Here is an idea for the style for the entrance of your home:

Best of luck with your project!

What's the opening just above the front door?

Your house looks like a split level home to me. Search on Houzz for split level homes they are so cool in two tones.

I think it depends chiefly upon two things first: 1. your personal taste and 2. your neighborhood (what it will approve and what the overall style is) - but to me, your house lends itself very nicely to a quasi-midcentury modern style. I'm traditional myself, but in your house, I think it would be amazing to go with a patio starting at the front door and carry it over to the far end of the house, covered by a sleek roofline above the door and window. Put a light gray wash over the brick and a darker tone on the trim, then finish with a new, colorful door and sidelight. Add a statement plant - some sort of decorative, small tree, at the right-hand corner, with larger rectangular pavers going from the entry to the driveway.

This is by no means a professional drawing :), but i just wanted to give you a visual. You an do a pergola style porch addition to the front and use a mortar wash on the brick and add black shutters next to the windows. I do not know what your budget is, but this is a suggestion.

If you don't have the budget at the moment to go for a full rehab of your exterior, then go for ample landscaping and a modern walkway (wide) like some of these pics below:
