Sensitive fern, Onoclea sensibilis. We have quite a bit of it, including some worming its way into various gardens. The plant itself is fine, but I wish it didn't have such tendencies to take over the world.

Thanks so much for the identification, NHBabs! A fern! Who knew!? It's much prettier before it goes to seed. Apparently removing the seed stalks and taking down the dying foliage with a string trimmer when it begins to turn brown hasn't made a dent in their population. They seem to be very resilient, as you've said. Thanks again for the ID.

They look really nice in a vase with dried wildflower and tall grass seedheads. I collect them in early winter when I'm bored and want to be outdoors. :)
