When you are finished with this project, go onto Yelp and Google reviews and post a glowing review about how it was wonderful to work with this fabricator and his focus was making sure you loved everything about you kitchen. Heap copious praise on him. It will help his business and pay him back a little bit for the way he's gone over and above the call of duty on this project.

Most fabricators I've worked with recently won't just give you slabs of material. They're often too heavy to handle without special tools and can pose a hazard if they're just stored in a garage, etc. It can be a big liability issue.

carolina,,,well, she's already paid for them. and I realize no one is storing a full slab of stone at their house! they will prop end up breaking these to get them off the wall. she could very easily keep pieces. I've had 3x5, 2x3 and other sizes that I've kept as extras for projects, at my house.

What a great move by your fabricator and/or GC. I agree, be sure to spread glowing reviews of those responsible. It sounds like a great compromise to me, for everyone involved.

There is another thread on here that is just the opposite! It wasn’t a natural occurrence in the stone it was very poor workmanship. So glad to hear stories about good people like this that also will take the hit even when it isn’t their fault because of pride in a job well done. Lucky you!

The fabricator may be a fool for doing this, but if he doesn't have you come to the shop and look for other obscene images before he cuts the new slabs, he will prove it.

While it’s certainly tempting to take the fabricator up on his offer to do the rework free of charge, I don’t think it’s the right thing to do. If it were me, and I was adamant about having new marble installed, I would thank him very much for his generosity but I would insist on paying him for his efforts. IMO, the good guys should be rewarded, not penalized. ;)

And Beth: As for trying to keep the old pieces because “she’s already paid for them,” I think that’s just plain greedy. If anybody’s able to salvage something out of this it should be the fabricator.

Sammy,,,maybe you missed the part where OP said she was paying for the new slabs. She will get them at cost, but she's still paying for them. Greedy? why would you say that? It didn't even occur to me that he would be giving her a refund. Didn't think about that since only part of it is getting replaced. If the slab guy is giving her back the money for the pieces he is removing, then fine. I wasn't sure if she was getting a refund or not. In no way would I expect her to keep them if she hadn't paid for them. come on!

This is hilarious! I would replace the slabs & share the added expense with all parties. It's honestly no one's fault.

Were I the fabricator and since it's no one's fault, I wouldn't share the cost of anything. I'm running a business, not a charity. I can't help it if people see Jesus in their grilled cheese sandwich or penises in their marble.

I am shocked the fabricator ate this. I am glad you are happy, your kitchen looks like it will be gorgeous but I feel sorry for your fabricator.

I do hope you'll write a review about how he handled this. Doing good work is an important thing for customers to find out about from reviews, but being able to fix problems and work with you is even more important and makes the merchant stand out among others with similar ratings. He should get a shout out, and if he's part of a chain, I'd email corporate as well.

I agree with Pal. You should show a wider audience what your kitchen looks like. The two windows on either side of your hood and the marble cladding are huge wins.

Gorgeous Kitchen. I am so glad this all worked out. Your situation actually helped me. I am in the process of planning out my slab backsplash. At first I wanted a Bookmatch seam above my range. As you know with the right pattern it can be beautiful or turn out hilarious. I now realize how lovely it can look without the bookmatch. I think your kitchen is stunning. Enjoy it.

fwiw, I have vaginas on my kitchen island a range backsplash - black soapstone with white veining that has a touch of pink. No one else in the family calls them that, and they are they ones with twisted minds.

Your kitchen is so beautiful - I'm really so glad it worked out. If I had to live with the original one, I would have ended up selling the house and moving.
