I voted for number 1 - It is a classic and has a larger format than your current rug which will tie the room together well.

So far the tally is:

#1. I ordered a rug from Manhattan Rugs and was happy with the speed of delivery. I called to order it and negotiated an extra 10% off.

Make sure you get a good thick felt rug pad for underneath, it will make the rug more comfortable and protect the rug and the floor. If you have furniture on top then you don't really need a non-slip one.

A hand knotted wool rug will last many years. It's best if you can vacuum with the rotary brush turned off.

I love Orientals and have used them in 5 homes I’ve owned, so I prefer #1. However, I usually like to pick up one of the more subtle colors in the rug to use elsewhere in the room — pillows, artwork, etc. Can you do that with #1?

I was almost going for #2, but now I see that 1 or 5 are really the best options! Thank you Ariane for your images as well. I have a 5 year old so the colored patterns are probably best; I would have chosen a fluffy white moroccan shag if there were no kids around! I would have also loved this (square tile west elm) but my friend discouraged me because of the kids. I like the idea of going neutral to highlight the art as Idesign stated above.

I called Manhattan Rugs tonight and talked to a guy named Abraham who was very helpful. Hamma, I think you are right, the 1st one is the best quality, even though 5 would be great too. It does have a story. The makers are Pakistani and the pattern originally from Iran.

Actually, a hand knotted wool rug shouldn't be vacuumed at all, that loosens the knots.

The best is if you can hang it over your balcony or take it to the roof and beat the dust out of it with a carpet beater.

Barring that, use a carpet sweeper.

Only very, very rarely use a vacuum.

Ok people - here is the rug!!! Thank you so much for your input. I think it looks awesome. Now... What about the coffee table!? Too small? I'm thinking about returning it and getting the noguchi table with glass top, but that is a similar design to my kitchen breakfast table nearby. What do you think!?

Rug is perfect! I agree with you the coffee table is too small. A glass top would be a good choice or a table that had a similar feel to the long cabinet.

I was going to vote #1 too! Love it in the room! The coffee table does look too small, and I would second the idea of the Noguchi which is beautiful and allows you to see the rug.

The rug looks great! Yes, current table too small and the white feels stark against the rich colors of your rug. Another vote for a glass top table.

#3 I am so done with the Asian look in rugs. Overdone and usually out of place, IMO.

Not too much glass, midcenturyvibes. It'd be a shame to hide that rug. (It is spectacular; I am so drooling over it.)
