How long does it take a single mint plant to spread out?

I pulled up one mint plant from a mature mint garden, it has thick, dark colored stems (I don't know if that's important) but I was wondering how long it would be before it sent out runners and a new mint plant sprouts? It is in a pot, I planted it about a week ago.
