I always have to have my Aprium and Pluot trees, as well as the Meyer Lemon. Bay Laural (culinary Bay) can get to be a very large shrub/tree if allowed; I keep mine at 6'... just because. I also live near Fresno and only the citrus need any covering for cold weather. Figs are also fun to grow; I have two different kinds.

If you had asked I would have suggested you not plant the Redwoods - or Sequoias either. They eventually get too big unless you have a huge lot.

Yikes! Redwoods are NOT for residential yards. I made that mistake 30 years ago and then spent tens of thousands of $ dealing with pipe and other issues.. Damage due to Redwoods and removal (30) ... around $55k. You can NOT have redwoods and landscaping. Choose one.

I planted Red Tipped Photinia as an alternate and could not be more pleased. They've grown to 18 ft. in 5 years.

Now, on to fruit trees. You are in the citrus zone - but the ACP bugs and lethal HLB is coming so I would avoid citrus for the next 5-9 years or until disease resistant varieties become available. [search ACP and HLB if you wish to know the dirty details; its bad, really bad].

Pomegranates and Persimmon are relatively low maintenance and are good looking too. I love the Parfianka variety - dwarfish and deeee-lish. Figs will do well, but they must be planted away from pools and concrete as the roots will travel long distances and cause havoc. The Black Mission fig is about as good as you are going to get!

Mangoes are not easy to grow. If you are willing to protect them in winter from frosts then you have a chance Some types are good because they grow fast- Manila,Valencia Pride,Bailys Marvel.

None can take 32f,especially if its multiple nights of that. Still,if you cover for the first couple of winters in coldest nights they can then thrive in summer. I heard this year you only had one night touch freezing. Couple that with your long very hot summers its going to be a good year for those growing Mangoes in Fresno.

I don't know about Mangos, but I do know that our winter nights can frequently go below 32 degrees for many nights in a row. I tent my citrus in the winter to protect from the night cold. This past winter (2017-18) was very mild and shouldn't be seen as the "usual".

People have a heck of a time growing good mangoes down here. I think I'd give that one a skip.
