I've fallen in love with Cannas...

I've always loved them but kept losing the battle with the caterpillars. Now I've discovered BT and it's not such a problem. I planted 3 bulbs a little over a year ago in a wheelbarrow and now it is crammed with them, WOW how they do multiply. Do you ever fall in love with a certain plant?

Me too!! I LOVE them, I just bought a plant to add to my small section that I planted 2 years ago. From one plant it now has 4 and I'm hoping I'll have more next spring after they multiply :o)

I agree with all of you.:) cannas are so easy, have different colors and they multiply!

I love all flowers, they make the garden a happy place.

I love them too, but don't have room for a lot of them. I have this yellow and the C. Indica, with beautiful purple leaves. I've always wanted a Tropicana, but I don't even think they sell that one anymore.

Wow! That one is very pretty!!! Will have to keep an eye for one of those...

puglvr, it's an heirloom variety. You might be able to find someone that will give you a start. They multiply like mad, so people are usually thinning them in the spring or fall.

That is so weird...I got an email from Houzz saying there was a new comment from "Irma_stpete"...but yet it's not on this post!?!?

    Here's is her post...irma_stpete_9b said:

Do you successful canna growers consider it a thirsty plant?

Irma, I personally haven't found them to be a thirsty plant once established, they are on auto pilot. Whatever the rain and sprinkler system gives them. Having said that I have been watering them once or twice a day for the first week I planted them, now they should be fine. If you don't have rain I would probably water them once or 2x a week till the rainy season starts...

I'm sure because I placed her post here it will show up now Lol...

Oh how many times I got addicted to one type of plant or another. Canna being one type back in my 20s I had so many most from my lawn and landscape service any I could get went in that yard. Many are still there. I also had a small addiction to orchids.still have a few of those.but sadly no canna. I am redoing a area that I want to have a tropical feel maybe I will put a couple in there.

Well, I could not resist. I found a dark-leaved canna with beautiful red blooms 50% off at WalMart today, and had to buy it. It seems to be very short, is only in a 1-gallon pot, so I'll have to see what it does once I plant it. Like I need more plants...sheesh!

Rita, I like the yellow and orange flowers. Yours looks like someone spilled orange paint on the yellow flowers! Pretty!

This is My Inferno Canna about to open. I planted four bulbs and it's my first attempt at growing them.

That looks almost exactly like the canna I just bought, but it didn't have a name on it. Is it a dwarf? I'm hoping this one is short like my yellow/orange ones. The red ones are too tall and spread too fast. I dug up as many as I could find, and I just saw another one coming up in that bed. It's insane!

How much are you all paying for your canna's

Glenn, I got my other ones for free, but this one, I got 1/2 price at WalMart clearance rack. It was $3.00.

I bought some cannas online only to find that I definitely overpaid for them. Plus, the rhizomes were not in good shape. If at least one of each variety makes it, I will be happy.
