'the cabs are painted a cream color'. what color, exactly?

you have posted diff pics. why? are you considering painting again? the island you want changed to that greige color? Collonade gray gives off a green undertone.

Can we see a current pic of your kitchen and walls, other than the one you posted?

"by the end of the day they look yellow",,,well yes,, that's because the sun is setting and the blue light rays have given way to the yellows and reds.

To combat nature, change out your bulbs to cooler, blue/white bulbs, usually in the 4500K range or higher. it should make your kitchen look like high noon.

I am not a huge fan of the cabinet colors right now. I think it looks very dated. The island is in a very light sage green and looks very washed out. And the trim is stark white. So nothing goes together. I would like it to look cohesive and freshen it up a little bit. I was thinking of painting all the cabinets, island, trim and the fireplace surround.

ok,,,so painting them all the one grayer tone?

why not change the cabinets to a brighter white?

but, if you want the other tone, try a few samples and bring them home.

We agree with changing the light bulbs first, however if you don't like the paint anyway, then definitely change it.

I'm a bit surprised that folks are recommending you go above a 3000K bulb temp for residential lighting. Give it a try but at those higher temperatures, you start to approach the temperature of tubular fluorescent fixtures used in offices and commercial spaces. It's a very bluish/white bright light that isn't very flattering.

If lighting is causing your problem, the the bulbs you are using are probably down in the 2300 - 2700K range. A bump to 3000K puts you in line with a typical halogen bulb which is generally a pleasing bright, white light for residential use.

Bulb temperature isn't the only thing to consider. Make sure, if you have LED, you are using bulbs with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 90+. The CRI scale ranges from 0 to 100. The higher the number the better. Cheaper LEDs typically come in around 80. It makes a difference.

Lighting got a whole more complicated with the move from incandescent to LED.
