Rejuvenation (by Precedent) sofa quality?

After a lot of comparison shopping, we fell in love with the style and comfort of the leather Hastings sofa from Rejuvenation (manufactured by Precedent). It is at the very top of our budget ($4K) and the store offered little to no information on its internal construction. I've been back and forth with one of their merchandisers for months trying to get answers to some pretty basic questions. In the end, I'm satisfied with almost everything: bench-made in NC from kiln-dried hardwood; corner-blocked frame; heavy leather upholstery; 30lb 1.8 conventional foam seat cushion. The floor model has been out since the store opened 6 years ago and still looks great. The issue is the springs. At this price point, I expected 8-way hand tied, but instead they are sinuous. The springs are 9-gauge recycled steel wire set 6" apart, center to center, with only one tie wire connecting them. That sounds a little flimsy for something my family will lounge on daily. Should I keep looking?

did you end up buying this sofa? I'm considering one in leather.

Julie, yes. We ordered it during the last 20% off sale. We’ve only had it about 2 weeks, but I’m happy with it so far.

Julie, an update for you: This weekend we discovered a seam in the seat cushion is beginning to split. The bench cushion seat is two halves sewn together with a basic seam, and the thread broke. Wish me luck with customer service!

Update: Rejuvenation has the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I called customer service on 11/8 and spoke with a rep who asked me to email photos of the faulty seam. After I sent them, she replied asking for a photo of the entire sofa as well. I sent the photo on 11/9. And that's the last I've heard from her, despite two subsequent emails (11/13 & 11/19) asking for an update. On 11/20, I forwarded the entire email thread and photos to the general customerservice@rejuvenation account as well. No response. I called and waited on hold for 20 minutes before being told someone from leadership had already called me. Lies. Next stop: The Los Angeles store/showroom, where I will raise holy hell until this is resolved.

Another update for those following along at home. After my third call to "Customer Service" and my third "customer service" rep, it appears they are going to send me a brand new sofa. I know this because I just received an email receipt thanking me for my order. Zero communication outside of that, of course, so I can only assume.

That's unfortunate. I hope the second sofa isn't as problematic. For that price, the construction should be sturdier.

    Good luck!

I'm so glad I found this review as I've been strongly considering ordering the Hastings sectional in leather. Did they resolve to your satisfaction, or should I look elsewhere?

We had to return a Hastings sectional after one year! The tweed was pilling horribly, seams were misaligned, feathers shedding like crazy, and the springs had already given way!!!!!

I can say that while the product was a disaster our customer service was fantastic

Would you say this is a problem from Precedent furniture manufacturing? I am considering a Precedent sectional because it is a Sherrill furniture sister company I was hoping it was of same quality craftsmanship and reputation.

Libby Estell Did you buy a new sofa? If so, I'd love to hear what you got, and how you like it. I'm in sofa shopping hell. Trying to avoid buyers remorse. Would like it to be one and done! And have the thing last for 10+ years. We live on our sofa.

@Rachel We still have the Hastings, and the seam Rejuvenation repaired started to come apart again rather quickly. The sofa has been in storage for months while we’re between homes. We’ll need a second sofa in our new place, and I am dreading the search. Good luck to you!

Libby Estell Thanks. Good luck to you too. I guess we're both going to need it! I was actually just told by a sales person yesterday that Precedent makes good, reliable furniture. So much for that. That's the trouble today, sales people either don't know or aren't honest.
