Thanks Mork. I've had them indoors fruit by a sunny window. Never tried them in ground before. At least the plant is acclimated to real sun being outdoors for a couple of potted years.

I think one of these is a shoot that started with the indoors. The others Dole "nursery" !

wow- I didn't get a notice on your post RD,sorry. Looks great. I can tell you potted pineapples just seem to be sweeter,with a syrup like bite.

You can get instant roots on a top if you twist it off,not cut, and then peel lower leaves until you see proto roots. That's where you can plant them.

I'm seeing some huge Pineapples sold at HD for those who want a big commercial sized pineapple I suppose. But they will fruit on smaller for sure. Just smaller fruit.

They are good looking plants, even if they never fruit, but how cool if they do.

How did you guys get them started? I've rooted a few tops in water over the years but never been able to successfully transition into soil/sand. Maybe too wet or not warm enough?

Hmmm, I waited until roots were about 6 inches long, then potted in a 10 gallon container using Foxfarms Ocean forest mixed with a little dirt. From what I read they do not like too much water. After potting went straight to the grow room. Average temp is around 82 degrees, nite time it will drop to maybe 60 during winter. I water about once a week, pouring directly into top of plant and then adding some to the soil, so it isnt super wet all the time. So far so good. about every 2 weeks it gets a shot of Foxfarms Big Grow. I also use a PH/Moisture meter to check water content in soil, when it starts getting really low I water soil pretty good.

Its a matter of acclimating for us in the bay area Rhino. Not that I have the secret,but many of my other half hearted attempts at straight to outside with newly rooted tops got me stunted plants that survived for a winter or so..then died.

These I grew indoors by a sunny window for over a year..then when they outgrew that? I put them outdoors in my plant coral next to the driveway. Only,I put them in the light shade of larger potted plants so they got my best "warm shade".

Surprise!..they grew more..got a good color too. This year, in the ground they went.
