Help with a bathroom question

I have an older city bungalow. The bathroom walls are mostly (about 70%) covered in a 4" porcelain tile with horrible pink accent pieces. Without tearing it all out or besides painting it, are their any other solutions to covering it? I was told that drywall or a covering wasn't a good option either due to mold or no way to finish/cap it off and covering would sit unevenly (not flush). Does anyone else know differently or any other solution? Have you dealt with this problem?
