Any advice on what media to repot it in? I was looking at the cymbidium mixes from repotme which say they are good for zygos. This is my first zygo so I don't really know what I'm doing and at $45 I don't want to kill it either.

It was outside all summer and is now starting to bloom again! I would like to bring it inside but how do I get rid of any insects that are in it?

Hi! Zygo's are favorites of mine! Congrats on your rebloom & I completely understand why you would like to bring Jumping Jack inside. He's supposed to be the big daddy of fragrant zygos. I would lightly rinse him off if you see any bugs on him, let him dry & bring him indoors. I'm not sure anyone answered your question about repotting. When you choose to repot him, I use a fine orchid mix by better-gro and because my climate is so dry add a little but if sphagnum moss for my collection of zygos.

spray it with alcohol. It kills bugs on contact. the bug must get wet. Harmless to the plant. Or mild dish soap, like ivory. But mild only. 1/2 ounce to the gallon. Or safer soap.

His fragrance is "peppery"

Oh my!!! He's very beautiful & happy! Peppery? Fascinating! I've a couple I swear are similar to cinnamon. What I find even more interesting is that the spent & dried blooms smell even more like cinnamon. I don't know if you're a Twitter user but please let me know if you are!

I did end up repotting with repotme.com's cymbidium mix, which I believe is a bark and peat mix. I put it outside in the beginning of summer in about 50% shade, fed and watered it regularly, and it rewarded me with about a dozen or so fragrant blooms. It is my favorite orchid because it reminds me of my mother who talked me into buying it at the NYBG Orchid Show this year. That's why I always listen to my mother. She's got a green thumb which I think I inherited from her.
