Again with the Snowballs

Looking back on my history, I see that I have been whining about this since 2014. I thought I was burying Viburnum M and turned out not to be. Then in 2016 I tried again ...nope. So here I am buying yet another snowball from a reputable nursery. But the others came from reputable nurseries too.

What I want is huge fat white snowballs. Problem is I can never wait until its in bloom because they're all sold out by then and there's a real issue with mislabeling viburnums.

So here's what I bought. Is it the real thing this time? It's about 2ft tall and labeled Common Snowball.

Are you buying Viburnum sterile ' Roseum'? That would be common snowball. For bigger snowballs you need to get Viburnum macrocephalum, Chinese Snowball.

If this one doesn't turn out how you want make sure your next purchase is labelled with the botanical name. Then you have grounds for a refund if it turns out to be mislabelled.

There are 3 different viburnums that are commonly referred to as "snowball" viburnums: Eastern or common snowball, Viburnum opulus 'Roseum'; Chinese snowball, Viburnum macrocephlum; and Japanese snowball, Viburnum plicatum f. plicatum. As noted by floral, the Chinese snowball has the largest flowerheads.

Yes that's what I think I have viburnum opulus Roreum. I guess you agree that's what I have. I'm ok not having the biggest snowballs in town...these smaller ones will due.
