Windows are different heights from ceiling.

This farmhouse has a unique problem. You can see in the photos that the windows are different heights from the ceiling. Previously the curtains were hung at the top of each window. It seemed to make it very obvious that the windows were not the same height. Now the curtains are hung at the same height but this leaves a large open wall space over one window. Any ideas on how to make this look better?

I would consider a natural fiber shade hung near the ceiling above each window.

Camouflage with a valance from the ceiling to the top of the shorter window, and from the ceiling to the same point on the taller window. Someone must have made good use of some group of windows at a Building Warehouse, or the like? Easy enough to solve, if you don't mind giving up the view atop the window. The other idea, I have always wanted to use, is to install a mirror atop the shorter window from the ceiling up. It might give you the option of enjoying the taller view of the window that way. Not knowing what the cost is, mirror tiles might even work above the shorter window. Think about other ways, go to a pawn shop or 2nd hand furniture store and see if you can purchase some former wall mirrors or dresser mirrors and get a glass cutter and make your own tiles. If you are not concerned about the mirror being a shiney new finish one, this might work nicely for you? Likely a glass company could cut and install one mirror to fit in that space however in a quicker time span..

redsilver, both great ideas! I had wondered about the mirror option, but wasn't sure. Interesting that you would think of the same idea, so maybe it would work! :)

It would preserve the height of your taller window. I often see the full length mirrors that so many mount on the back of closet doors. I think that might be a very affordable way to achieve the look? If it has a vertical joint in the mirror aligning with the current window divided light pains, so much the more realistic. You could even extend a white wood trim to the ceiling over the vertical joint edges of said mirror glass, that mimics the divided light of your 3 window unit, and horizontally across the top, to mimic the other's top window frame?! Ahh the ideas we ladies can have? :D Enjoy your choice, whatever works best for you.

Elle said what I would have said. The shade will cover the wall and part of the view from the other window, but will even out the disparity. The shade over the window may need to be a black out style so the light leaking through doesn't betray your simple trick and it appears the same as the one on the wall even when the sun is shining.
