Even though we had one really cold weekend this winter (4 degrees here in Raleigh) and even though we went thru many weeks of high heat and no rain (at least in my yard) - my fruiting plants are pretty loaded with baby fruits.

'Russian' Pomegranate - bought from Edible Landscaping up in VA many many years ago. I have dug up and moved this tree a couple of times. Planting it up beside the garage on the southeast side seems to have done the trick. I have three fruiting varieties and two not-for-fruit varieties, all are doing well this year.

Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry - got this one down at Big Bloomers in Sanford a couple of years ago. I wasn't sure it would be winter hardy (it has frozen back to the ground in past years) and some of the bushes were damaged this year. Lots and lots and lots of berries this year and with the rain this weekend they are getting big.

Goumi berries or Cherry Eleagnus and great snack while you weed the garden plant. A resident pair of mockingbirds guard this row from all other birds so I get plenty of fruit.

'Carmine Jewel' bush cherry - the birds usually get to these before I can. I usually have to pick them before they fully ripe and more cherry like. This is the only cultivar of this new line of bush cherries that does well for me. All of the bush cherries are cute, nicely shaped bushes that would fit just about anywhere.

Fuzzy Kiwi 'Vincent' handled the cold just fine. It may have helped that last year's crop was damaged by the April freeze so the vines are compensating with extra fruit this year.

My little 'Glen' Mango is spending his summer vacationing out of the greenhouse and appears very happy.
