I’m so sorry for your loss. Do you have a shady spot outside to summer your sans? Many times a summer outside can do wonders for them.

albert, you’re right, I can’t give up on my babies... too much time and money invested in them, plus I love them...

Thanks so much barbmock, I do not have an outside space but I have a sun porch that gets Eastern sun until around 1:00; my Jades spend Spring-Fall there, maybe I can move the Sans there too. They are just so dried out that it makes me sadder than I already am... do you think they will get any better?

That’s very generous of you barbmock, I truly appreciate your offer, but I already have so many plants between my Jades, Sans, and new Agave obsession; don’t know where to put any more... plus last Summer Mike and Chris sent me a bunch more Sans... my adult children that live with me are NOT too happy with me...

Oh, okay Mary. Seems like we have the same problem.

Maybe we should start a support group for plant addiction. Still got some plants in my basement to bring outside. Spent several days now taking them out and trying to find a place to put them. If only a had a ton of money I could build my dream room (heated) and spend my old age resting in my rocking chair.

Haha! Stush... I would definitely join... I just started collecting Agaves the month my mom got sick, (January) and I now have over 20 plants (about 16 varieties). My dream room would be a heated/cooled sun room totally attached and open into my home, with a recliner, table, and mini fridge so I never have to leave it...

Best wishes Mary. If they are not taking up valuable plant real estate, don't give up on them yet. I second or third the suggestion of getting them outside for the summer on your porch (introduce them slowly to the sun if they have been outside so they don't sunburn). When it is warm they seem to thrive even with a lot of moisture, which will help rehydrate them. By the end of the summer you will hopefully have some nice new pups, and can decide who the keepers are. If they are gone gone you will know in a month or so. If they are shriveled mostly from lack of water I bet there is some living rhizome below the soil that will resprout. As the pain from your hard loss dulls a bit in time you will begin to enjoy your plants and hobbies again. Sorry for your loss. BTW two summers ago my beloved grandmother was dying. She had lived in her own home since long before I was born. There was a rose by her kitchen step that I always remember growing up. I took a cutting of that and actually got one to root (my grandmother passed that December). In addition, when I was in her house there was a common green Philodendron in her laundry room that I also remember a long time. Nobody had watered it for ages and it was just dry shriveled but green stems (no leaves left). I took those stems and put them in a ziploc bag on moist soil and got them to slowly resprout. The plant is now large and thriving and I will share pieces with my cousins. I don't have much plant growing space, and that is a VERY common plant..........but I enjoy growing THAT particular plant as it gives me a connection with her.

Don't give up on your plants. I've had shriveled sans leaves plump up eventually and have even had sans that have died back and grow new leaves (my S. silver queen).

woodnative, sorry for the loss of your grandmother. Very cool that you saved her plant and share it with your family.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and your much needed virtual hug Nancy... the only one so far that is totally gone is one of my ‘Whitneys’ one of my ‘Gold Flames’ and my ‘Midnight Shine’... the rest are still hanging in there...

UPDATE: was not able to save 5 of my green babies... but my greatest loss was the ‘Eve’ and ‘Whitney’ would be happy to take pups if anyone has any...

Mary, Could possibly do some cuttings of some. But most are being put away for the winter. I know come spring I could help you out. Are you the one who lives in MA? I think I have your address already.
