I would paint the walls the same white as the trim and ceiling but instead of a semi-gloss, in a flat to coordinate the light switch, then swap out the light fixture with a hanging pendant light in the same finish as the door knob, but since your door knob looks gold I recommend going with a silver finish instead. A patterned rug and art in a thin frame would look nice (nothing bulking sticking out from the wall too much, but with color) were you interested in a decorative floor vent register, if going with the stainless steel accessories here's and idea:

I don't know what kind of style your home is moving towards so I'm not too sure what style art/ rugs/ accessories you make like? Southwestern/ Ornate/ Contemporary?
