How about moving the chair to the other side of the table and turn it slightly towards the tv set. Then add an ottoman in front of it and put a small reading lamp on the table. A place to view tv or a place to read.

If you do get anew chair a swivel would well to turn toward TV or for conversation with others in the room. Toddlers love to be rocked in a swivel rocker!

I like Pam’s idea. That is not a good spot for the chair, it is right in front of the TV yet you can’t see the TV from it. It’s obtrusive there for TV watchers.

A low cabinet with art work above it (either what you have or something bigger) would work there, and bonus, maybe a place to put kids toys as they always tend to congregate in the TV area!

Hmm... I tried moving the chair to the other side but now it seems cutoff from the couch. The only time people sit in that chair is when we have guests and it's more centered around conversation than television. I also tried moving the chair to the other side of the room in front of the fireplace but now that part of the room seems unbalanced. Maybe a cabinet would balance it?

I do think I need a chair somewhere, but I can't figure out where.

I like the idea of two chairs in that area, with a small table/lamp between, and a large, square, colorful piece of art (don't hang too high!) on the wall to complete the vignette. If you have the funds - to complete the room, I'd add a larger, heavier coffee table as well as new curtains (double the panel width that you have currently) that pull in the chair and pillow colors.

I love it just the way it is in your very first picture. It doesn’t look empty or awkward, it looks sleek and a elegantly minimal. Not every spot in the house needs filled up.

Try moving the blue chair and table a bit closer to the sofa. Lower the photos a bit doing 3 lower and 2 centered above. You may want to move the doggie bed and replace it with a tall green plant.

The end table by the sofa looks to already be what's blocking the entry. Try angling the blue chair in front of the center window and using the table/lamp that are on the window side of the sofa with it. Then move the larger end table to the window side of the sofa. For the wall in question, use a pair of chairs and a game table. Switch the mirror with the ceiling reflection for a piece of art no wider than the firebox opening.

The main problem is that your sofa is too long. To alleviate that, I'd replace the end table with a smaller one.

The blue chair is better in the corner by the fireplace, but your seating is too far apart and you don't have a natural conversation grouping. At least move the blue chair closer to the sofa and give it back its end table from when you had it on the other side.

The art wall looks good. If you have another row of framed prints, that may be enough.

Have you tried the sofa on the window wall? Does it occlude the fireplace too much? Do you have a view out the window that you want to take advantage of?

I like Groveraxle's idea of moving the sofa. Then put the console and TV on the opposite wall. The alcove could hold a cabinet or sofa table and artwork. Then the blue chair would be where of sofa is now but close to it.

The TV cabinet is built into that alcove, so the TV can’t move (without a ton of work, at least) and thus the couch can’t move. I do plan on getting a different side table one day as this one is pretty old and covered in scratches, so I’ll make sure the new one is a bit smaller to open it up more.

What is behind the sofa? Can it be moved closer to the center of the room? That might make the space more cozier. It appears to be way out of the room.

My sofa is angled in front of my big windows, try that. Angle it off center the middle window. Love the blue wall.

If room allows, I'd scootchie the sofa closer to the tv, remove the chair completely, and replace the current art with somethings larger and more dramatic. A new heftier coffee table might also be worth considering.

I see you’re in good hands so I don’t have much to add: wall mount your tv. It’s surprising how just a few inches up make that wall feel more full. I like the idea of painting it as others have suggested.

I see that your sofa can be split. Do you have a corner piece to the sofa somewhere else? Can you buy more pieces to your sofa? and make it a sectional?
