need backsplash advice - completely creatively blocked

I had picked out two different white subway tiles with a handmade look before my carrara marble countertops went in. After the tops were in, I leaned both tile boards up at the backsplash. One suddenly was pulling a pink undertone (very unintended), and the other now doesn't seem to go either.

I'm also completely rethinking the handmade, wavy subway tile.

My husband is pretty inflexible about what he likes. I really wanted flat, plain white subway. But I wanted something with a little more character. I like the hand-glazed look the best of all, more than the wavy tiles, but white hand-glazed doesn't look all that different from plain white because the tile body is white.

We likes decorating with accessories, and we definitely lean toward cooler tones. The house was originally beige everywhere with a travertine and beige/brown glass tile mosaic. Since it's a smaller kitchen, we want something less busy.

Please help me with some ideas!

Real life here, complete with a black twist tie on the counter, dish soap, and bunched up hand towels. :)

All appliances are staying.
