John, what makes Pixie stand out to you?

Satsumas generally do better where they can get some cool weather around harvest season as it helps the fruit sweeten up. This along with their cold hardiness is part of the reason they are primarily grown on the upper gulf coast. Given your location and lack of cooler weather, I would probably opt for trying a late season variety such as Owari, for best odds of getting some cooler weather prior to harvest, or possibly Brown Select which has harvest dates a couple of weeks earlier than Owari.

The pixie was given to me by a good friend who, like me is maybe one of 4 in the country that has it; it is seedless slip skin, great flavor; and that is enough for me. I am a Meyer lemon grower; so the other various varieties of citrus I have are mostly incidental. I have a lot of other citrus; but my favorite remains the Cara Cara or Red Navel orange.
