Favourite Plants?

I’m curious about everyone’s favourite plant or plants. Or any that you’re really fond of but for whatever reason doesn’t come up in threads here often to talk about. Or something you didn’t expect to like as much as you do. I would love to see everyone’s favourites haha!

It was my Othonna euphorbiodes that got me thinking about it. It was an ‘impulse buy’ on eBay, I was buying another item off the same seller so I was already paying an arm and a leg for shipping. It has turned into one of my favourites but isn’t super applicable to any of the current threads.

Nice topic. Where do I begin? Got over 300 plants and hard to pick favorites. Have to think about this for a while.

As a type? barrel shaped/globular cacti. Everything from ferocactus to echinopsis .

    Favorite color? Orange rebutias probably.

As a succulent plant? torn between agave americana and pachypodium lamereii.

single most favourite plant? Probably my oldest living cactus -raised this one from the size of half a golf-ball. Now its bigger than a tennis ball.

least favourite? mammilaria. With a few exceptions, the majority have tiny magenta blooms, and are hard to repot and glean. Also, too common, and not the good species . Only positive thing i could say about it is that they fruit easily, and the fruit isnt half bad.

This Aeonium has to be my favorite, partly because it's the last survivor from my first succulent buy (Feb. 2016)

I have a clone of an aloe arborescens which was my first plant. That being said, its not my favorite plant by a long shot.

My pereskia aculeata godseffiana, it's still very small and I haven't had it for long.

I wonder, are anyone else’s favourites ones that you’ve almost killed and then saved? I have a TC that has a special place for no real reason except that it was one of my first and therefore I’ve almost killed it more than once

SpanishFly, those Lophophora williamsii get me every time. I think they’re so neat, I’m excited for my seedlings to get bigger and turn that grey colour!

I am a flower geek. But also a form geek. I love Adromischus especially marinae in all the variants. In cactus, its Echinopsis, Mammillaria, Gymnocalycium, but its hard to say which one. Well maybe I got a G. intertextum from a club member that passed away. With the spines on this plant, I am wondering how the flowers will escape the jail.

I guess my favorite plant is my Euphorbia bupleurifolia. Had it a long time and I love it's shape and the texture of the trunk.

Another favorite is my Dorstenia gigas. It had a rough winter '16/'17 and I was afraid I was going to lose it, but now it's doing well.

As far as cactus go... my favorite is probably my Coleocephalocereus aureus

but I really love Aztekium, Ariocarpus, and, especially, Astrophytum.

    A. myriostigma fukuryu

So many, so hard to choose!

Rob, I love Adromischus, too, but man those babies can be pricey!

CasualSweater, I have favorites that I unfortunately can't keep alive (Sedum clavatum), but my two Echeveria PVN are looking better after they got burned last summer (one randomly started rotting but it's fine now).

I love my Furcraea macdougalii agave, partly because it is so big, but I am also interested in seeing what it will look like when it flowers, but I think I have another 15 or so years to wait.

I may not still be in this house by then, but maybe it won't take that long.

SLD, I just got a Euphorbia bupleurifolia, it’s starting to put out its first leave for me! Celeocephalocereus and Melocactus are on my want list! I’m really enjoying seeing everyone’s favourites

Echeverias are my favorites. I just love their flower look, even when not flowering. I sometimes put potted cuttings out for curb surfers, but I really don't want to part with echie pups.

I think the rosette type succulents can be gorgeous, I’ve just never had any luck with growing them unfortunately

I've come up with all sorts of new favorites after getting re-interested in succulents this year. As far as the one I've liked the most all along, it's Haworthia retusa 'Mutica'. Not very exciting to most people, but this is one of the first succulents I had, which was given to me. I never get tired of looking at it, and I never get tired of growing individual pups from it. I'm doing all sorts of experiments on them with light, soil etc. I always liked Haworthias because of the relatively low light situation I had until this year. Etiolated Echeverias were such a frustration, except for E. purpusorum.

This was before repotting quite a few months ago.

    Experimenting with more light:

    etc.

But I'm getting all sorts of new favorites that I had never heard of before this year. Probably my favorite of all is a Titanopsis seedling that I'm deathly afraid of killing.

I also like Lithops, although up until recently I only had one, which flowered despite me--it may have been the surprise of my life, but now I have a bunch of seedlings.

I'm also really getting into a lot of other mesembs growing from seed, and I like small unusual cactus, of which I don't have many of yet. Propagation of one sort or another is the most satisfying.

I was going to say Coleus and African Violets, but didn't want to get run out of town by an angry mob.

I’m a fan of most fat plants. We had a few members in the past that shared some great plants.

My plants are ALL my favorites ... love them all! That said and in my opinion, this Euphorbia lactea cristata is magestic for its form. I've always come back to this picture when I want to show something unique and special.

This is not a graft ... The head grew in like that quite unexpectedly and left that scar when it broke through. Side view to show it is not a graft:

whip, fat plants make up a lot of my favourites as well. I’ve started a bunch of fat plants from seed so fingers crossed I don’t kill them haha!

A true caudeces and not swollen roots. As starting a stem cutting. But this swollen root looks a lot like a caudex.

Not the best picture. The root has swollen much more now. The other pot of stem cuttings has swollen roots coming out the bottom. Pot is all stretched out and got to be cut off.

Not my favorite but this Euphorbia comes close.

I’d have to pick my Sedeveria ‘Blue Elf’. She’s just so cute and easygoing—always happy looking. I also like that even when some older leaves fade, it doesn’t look like it’s screaming in pain, and I can pluck them off when I want. I love watering it for the few seconds when the red rims look like they’re on fire. :)
