Diamond Kote Quality Issues?

We are considering Diamond Kote prefinishing on LP SmartSide siding for our new build in Massachusetts. However, our builder said that his lumberyard recently stopped carrying the product due to too many customer complaints about the finish performance. We're trying to get more information but, in the meantime, has anyone here encountered issues with the Diamond Kote finish?

Thanks in advance!

bot494, did you use Diamond Kote siding products on your project? I'd like to hear your feedback on the product, installation, etc. Thanks.

Yes, five years ago I had Diamond Kote Mountain Lake LP Smart Siding installed. It has failed horribly and the warranty only provides $1.25 per sq ft to repaint it while bids for just the labor are $3.00 to $3.50 a sq ft to repaint it. I wish i had gone with vinyl, at one third the cost, and ten times the life, and no main costs beyond washing it! I am still considering vinyl over this, now only six year old siding, because of fighting with Wausau over the last yesr about their failed product and lousy warranty!

And Wausau thinks one coat of paint is going to fix this mess!???

Our builder just finished installing DiamondKote siding on our new build. It looks horrible. We are very disappointed in the product especially given the cost. There are several areas that need touch up painting either from nail holes or just scratches due to nicks from handling the boards while installing. The touch up paint provided has a flat finish to it so it doesn’t match. It’s very obvious where we have done touch up painting. Apparently handling the material during the installation process requires white gloves or you’re left with a mess.

I DO NOT recommend this product.

My color was Seal and it faded and chalked terribly in 7 years.. they want to provide paint at no cost for me to apply but I’m thinking I can do better on my own with Sherwin or other brands

We are very disappointed with Diamond Kote Siding System. The siding has failed miserably and the company‘s answer to it is have some one clean it. The color on the siding has turned to a chalky discolored fade. The whole house. They denied the claim without even coming to see it, we are demanding they come look and see for themselves. we have been waiting for months for a response and the response is clean it. Sorry can’t clean color that has faded and turned to chalk

ckazik, I have the same color and the exact same thing happened to my house. Fading and chalking. If you google about painting Diamondkote it says not to. Why would they not provide the new siding to replace?

Do NOT use Diamond Kote. Although beautiful when the siding is new the paint began to fade after 4 years. The siding turned chalky on an irregular pattern. We contacted the company for warranty after 6 years as it was getting worse. They made a warranty visit and after 30 day sent a 4 page letter bla bla bla that we need to do maintenance and have our house spray washed. We live by the water and have our house spray washed twice a year anyways due to the fish flies. Our paint concern fell upon deaf ears and no go with their warranty. They do no stand behind their painted products. I expect a class action suit in the future which I will gladly join.
