Exterior door color

last modified: 8 years ago

We recently painted the exterior of our home in rainwashed by Sherwin williams. I am looking for a complimentary color to paint the exterior door. The trim is white.

A navy or red might be nice! Would you share a picture of the whole home?

Thanks Beverly, I guess I'd like more of a pop of color - one that compliments rather than clashes.

Is replacing your door with a dark wood one out of the question? The cherry door in this pic with the same color exterior is stunning
  • 8 years ago

I agree that is stunning but replacing with wood isn't an option right now. I have a six panel door with no window.

Here's a bunch of options. I'm digging Chartreuse and Secure Blue.

You already have a door with a pop of color and I'm not sure that works for your home. A pop of color is not the only solution to fix or complete a project.

That current door does not match the design of your home. I would recommend a more MCM style door for the entrance to complement the horizontal lines of your home.

Here's a railing design that I think could dress up your home a bit.

Here are some oversized MCM style address numbers and an enameled white barnlight to make sure there is enough light at your entrance.

I think these touches could really make your house special.

I looked up the Rainwashed color on SW website -- the last color on the color strip is a deep green, Jasper, and could be a great contrast. They also show First Star or Pewter Cast as coordinating colors, both are warm-tones grays. Keep us posted with your choice :)

Really like the Secure Blue Kathryn posted. The Rainwashed you chose is nice!

I think I like caen stone....Grover, how did you change the color on the pic? I have a lot of coral colors in the outdoor furniture. We're in the Florida Keys....rebuilding the house from Hurricane Irma.

The pictured door is not the door we will have however it is just a plain six panel door....Hurricane coded. Attached is a photo of the railings we selected.

    * can someone teach me how to upload actual photos from the internet and from House?

@mrsperino, when you click in the comment field, you should notice just below it a row of links that allow you to perform certain actions. The one that says "Photo" allows you to upload a photo from your hard drive; the one that says "Houzz Photo" allows you to choose one that you've saved in an ideabook or, alternatively, to paste a Houzz url which will insert the photo.

Rainwashed looks great with deep emerald green, fuschia, coral a bit lighter and brighter (less grey) than what you have, creamy white, butter yellow, black, natural mahogany, natural cherry wood, natural oak...

I have it in my entryway and the lighter Tidewater in my adjacent living room. I cannot love those two colours enough!

I love the idea of the coral door and your coordinating coral outdoor furniture with the Rainwashed exterior and white trim. Your new railings are perfect IMO. Would love to see your very cool home when you finish. I also like some of the other colors, but we are here in S FL, why not take advantage of our penchant for color?

It's been a long haul since IRMA, hasn't it? I hope the end is in sight so you can enjoy it soon.

groveraxle-- okay, I see now where I can load photos from my personal galleries. I'm on a tablet so maybe that's why I can't post directly from Houzz.

here is the image of what multiple colors look like with aqua. I mentioned The Buttery yellow and the midnight as my favorites. Anything in the coral / sherbert is going to be amazing too...as complementary colors.

Get the new deck railing installed and then see what you like , I think black and glass railing , black door with lots of glass and 3 big black planters to the left of the door loaded with colorful plantings might be awesome.

Can anyone edit the photo to show with caen stone? I like corals better - or a charcoal?

you should be able paint your own photo on the Sherwin-Williams website or app. If they don't do it, Behr Paint does it for sure on their website or app using similar colors. Basically you're taking a picture of your house and tapping on the door to change that color in the photo. That's the only way I know how to do it.

however, nothing beats painting a big sample on a board and taping it on your door for a few days. the Sherwin-Williams color consultant can also come out to help you choose , for a hundred bucks and then give you $50 gift card for Sherwin William paint. just a few options...

Thanks, the Lei Flower is pretty as well. Seems I'm all over the map with this one. Husbands vote is white white white :( For sure no purple

I'm in SW Florida and mine is bright coral. It's only a door and a little bit of color. If you don't like it, it's easier to paint over it.

I love the Rainwashed. It's the same color I painted my guest bath.
