We suggest doing 48" upper cabinets (more storage, plus it will make the ceiling look taller) in very light gray or ivory uppers and navy lowers.

I love the idea of green. I'm not sold on the particular shade, but a green of some sort would be delightful. How authentic are you planning to make it? This is a beautiful example of a green and cream and red kitchen.

Go with a color you love (not white). I don't love that green but you have to love it not me. I only have base cabinets so I went dark with mine (SW dark night) and I love them. I've got a north facing kitchen too and I don't find it dark because of the cabinets.

Lindsey- We’re going with a shaker style cabinet which should go with the age of the home. We’d like to stay true to the style as much as we can.

I would do open shelving instead of upper cabinets. I did that in mine and I love it. It makes the room feel lighter and you still get storage. Here's a post on open shelving with some great inspiration. Most of those have furniture pieces in the room too.

I would put the wall cabinets up to the ceiling. I would do two - tone like off-white and that beautiful and fresh green people are looking at above ! The off-white could be in the same family as the green.

I love the sideboard. I would go with blue and off white to work with your porcelain collection...you already know the blue and white looks great with your furniture.

Not keen myself on open shelving for a kitchen that gets lived in. But if you did cabinets with glass fronts on the top where you now have open space, you could use that part for display/less used items.

I like open shelving but we have a cat and I’d rather not find him sitting in the dishes :). I like the glass door idea and will go with that for the dishes cabinet above the dishwasher.

Jean and Diana- Green would be fun and since it’s close to the yellow family it would probably brighten things up a bit and contrast nicely with everything else.

amyd0201 - Those are great choices. I have a similar blue. Right now everyone seems to be doing blue so I'd probably choose the green.

I voted blue because I love blue, but I wouldn't pick navy per se. There are so many nice blues out there. I've had a blue and white kitchen for 15 years and loved every day of it. Just re-did it, again in blue and white. That said, we really were torn because we loved grayish-green as well; it is also beautiful and relaxing. Don't think you can go wrong.

So, if you choose green.... You'll have a blue and green scheme in the kitchen. Green cabinets will be a lot of green.. Dk- that crossbar thing will eventually come down and free up the window. We’d love to enlarge the window but it might just be cheaper to put in a couple sun tubes so it would be sunny all day instead of just at 5pm.

Thanks for the ring ideas. If I end up going green I’d only do the bottom cabinets but your rug blend was a good point and would make the room more cohesive.
