it all depends on what your goal is for this tree.

If it was my JBP, I'd get rid of all four of those ugly extending candles, shorten the three that remain then see what I get for back buds later this year into the next.

Hmm I see.. I will do that then. Though is it bad to prune once the new candles have already formed needles and hardened off? I heard it is best to do it when its still white and fuzzy in early May.

If you are candle pruning as in pruning the length of the newly extended candles, then yes it is best to do this when the candles are white and fuzzy before the needles start to emerge. I believe this is for the sake of maintaining an apical bud on the end of the candle. If you do it early before the new buds form then an apical bud may still form where you cut it. If you prune after buds have set then prune back to a desired bud or prune off entire limbs as you like. =)
