Darker woods tie in with grey and would look stunning against that for me personally. But we avoided that in our new house because we have two very hairy malamutes. Every. Piece. Of. Hair. There’s some cool white washy looking woods that could work too? But that’s pretty specific on decor. What’s the style of your master? Furniture colors you are hanging onto?

IMO the tile should just continue into the bedroom. This is the reason you do not start this type of project without all the stuff decided. So either dark gray simple 12 x 24 tile in the bedroom in a color from the bathroom floor or the same floor . No real wood next to that .

Thanks for the thoughts. Basically we have three distinct rooms that we need to deal with, one of which of which is the master bath that we’ve already tiled as seen in the pictures. The other two rooms are the laundry room and the master bedroom. The laundry room has linoleum and the master bedroom laminate. The rest of the house with the exception of the bedrooms and bathroom is oak hardwood. The master suite was an addition and is built on a concrete slab which is why these rooms don’t have the original hardwood flooring.

I’m not worried about it being perfect because I think we’re beyond that but I definitely don’t want it to be an obvious no-no. We’re not picky; we just want to update the floors. But we recognize that our decisions bear on resale.

Thoughts on the darker oak pictured that we did in our grand room?

I’m not a pro but I say go with the oak flooring that you have in the rest of your house. I understand having wood-look tile “butting up” against wood is considered a faux pas but I think they are so different that it I’ll look okay. Hard to tell from pics but I think the colors coordinate nicely.

Plus- it’s nice to have wood flooring consistent throughout as much of the house as possible and when you sell, a potential buyer would only have to tear out the bathroom floor if they don’t like it, rather than the floor in the bedroom as well. Seems like a less daunting project if I were considering buying. Good luck!

The dark looks sharp, but if the rest of the house is oak I’d stick with that!
