You need a pretty thick layer of soil to smother or kill off most lawn grasses!! I've seen it (cool season blends) grow through as much as 6" or so of compost or topsoil used to fill in divots or indentations. How much potting soil did you put on it? Did you rake it to even it out? Was there anything in the pots besides just used potting soil?

Well, my pots are really big, and worms got into the pots and probably changed it into partial compost. I've been putting my soil on the lawn for many years...and I think the last time I didn't spread it out enough or else through the years it accumulated to be too much. Yes, some years I used a garden soil mixed heavily with peat moss, etc. I didn't rake it out, because I hand spread it...tossed it everywhere. We also have heavy dogs running all over the grass...so maybe the soil is compacted. Although we had it aerated a couple of years ago.

It's almost impossible to maintain a nice lawn while having large dogs. My backyard is patchy from urine stains and my two dogs running around. My KBG is no match for it no matter what I do.

Mishmosh - my dogs only go pee on the grass in the winter...and not very much at all. They go poop and pee in run that they access through the garage. If they do poop in the backyard...it's always on the rocks surrounding the grass. I really think it's from me dumping on too much potting soil. Definitely the running hasn't been the best. But I used to have wonderful grass with 3 standard poodles (had them at the same time)...they didn't go pee on the grass.

I did find some alfalfa pellets...and I'm putting them on the grass. But I still can't find anything else.
