I am currently looking at a house in New Jersey that has a large detached barn that was converted into an apartment. The MLS listing doesn’t advertise the garage apartment, but when I pulled an OPRA report it’s shows the permit that was approved to convert the garage to an apartment back in 1993. My question is, does the seller have to provide a certificate of occupancy for the converted apartment even tho it’s not being advertised in the MLS listing? And secondly, what legallities are involved in decommissioning and converting the living space back into a barn?
