Andersen 400 Simulated Divided Lights

I was set on getting Marvin Integrity All Ultrex windows - b/c the price was right and I liked that we could order dark interior and exterior. But then I saw that they only had Grills Between Glass dividers and I didn't like how they looked.

So then I got a quote for the Marvin Integrity Wood Ultrex, which I really liked, but the quote came back $8K more expensive ($18K for All Ultrex, $26K for Wood Ultrex). This is for 27 windows - which I thought was a reasonable price - but that's $8K that will have to come from somewhere.

The Andersen 400 windows came back around $18K - so now I'm considering the 400s again. How are the dividers for the 400 - can I do Simulated Divided Lights on the Andersen 400 and do they look good? Any reason why you'd really dig to get the Marvin Wood Ultrex vs. doing the cheaper 400s?

Are you doing the full simulated divided lites (syrface applied both sides and grids between the glass)? And if so, the Andersens are 8k less than the Wood Ultrax Integrity? I would have thought they would have been a closer gap than that.

The andersen quote didn't include any SDL. I'm not sure what I'd want - maybe just on the outside. The wood ultrex came back 30% higher which is a lot more than I expected - or maybe the all ultrex price is just really good/competitive. The builder wants to show me some locally built windows that are wood/composite, so I'm going to check those out too.

Looks like the Andersen 400 w/ SDLs would be $20K (added about $2K) - so that's $6K less than the Marvin Wood Ultrex...

Again are they both internal grids, with applied exterior and interior grids? Surface applied grids on only one surface will look very off in my opinion.

Nothing between the glass, just applied to the exterior and interior glass.

OK, that will look ok, but from an angle you will be able to see between the grids. Are you sure that the difference is is 6k? If that is the case I would use thee 400's but that still doesn't sound correct to me, cost spreadwise.

I looked again and you’re right, one quote had doors in it. When looking just at the windows the 400s (NOT woodwright) and wood ultrex are similar in price. It’s outside the budget.

The all ultrex is in budget but I don’t like the between glass grill. The builder wants to show me a different wood/composite window, I’m guessing it’s builder grade. Not sure what I want to do.

Well, the windows my builder is recommending are built by a local shop here - so there isn't a brand name. They are all wood, SDLs, double pane, with a 5 year warranty. The price differential was really substantial, almost $20K less going this way vs. the Marvin Wood Ultrex. I'm going to take a chance and go with his recommendation. I realize I'm getting a lesser quality window but budget is an issue and the $ has to come from somewhere. I'll be back when/if the windows fail, tho I'm hoping they mostly work out.
