Wrong stone color?

Does this look bad? I should’ve chosen a darker stone but this looked so good in the picture. Thoughts? Potential costs if I ever wanted to switch it? Any way to change just a few stone pieces?

What’s your problem with it? It looks fine to me.

@ K Laurence nothing majorly wrong with it. My husband says it should be darker to contrast with the siding but I wasn’t a fan of the same siding that had the blacker stones so we went with this.

No you don't want it contrasting because then it would have broken up the lines of the house too much. It's the perfect accent. Well done.

Perfect but if you needed contract despite our comments, it’d be easier to paint siding in a lighter shade than replace stone. Still, see it as completely unnecessary

Stone is a wonderful construction material and has been around for a long time, most everyone has seen old buildings built with stone. The craftsmen that built the buildings with stone have developed over the years ways of detailing the stone and the transition between the stone and adjacent materials. This detailing has become traditional and ways of achieving a traditional look in a house is to copy these details. With the advent of new materials mimicking traditional materials, such as vinyl siding and man made stone from concrete, some traditional details have been excluded from the design of the house.

In this case, it may not be the color or height of the stone, but its transition between the materials, that offends the eye.

As I stated. I think it looks fine, I wouldn’t want it darker & I think landscaping will resolve any qualms you might have about it. You’re focusing on it because there’s nothing else there.

Your stone choice looks really good w/siding. Agree that landscaping will calm your concerns.

Looking forward to more pics of whole house as you begin to landscape.

Sometimes when we pick something out from a photo or small sample we make a mental picture of what it will look like completed and our vision is usually slightly off! When the material gets installed, it is a shock, because it doesn't match that mental picture. After a few days you will realize it looks way better than your faulty mental picture!

It looks good ... and so glad you didn't try to also add brick, vertical siding and a metal roof somewhere! :-)

Don't get me wrong, I like the stone and horizontal siding combination, but it is that transition between the two that bothers me (admittedly I may be more critical than some). And I bring this up for future reference (for those that care), not to suggest any changes to this project.

It appears the transition strip pointed out in the image above is mad of a J-channel the same color as the vinyl siding and white flashing that extends out pst the face of the stone.

IF this were real stone and real cedar shingles, the shingles would swoop out to terminate past the face of the stone, without J-channel and without visible flashing.

Or, the stone would have a stone or concrete cap with its top side slightly sloped away from the wall and a drip stop on its bottom in front of the stone below; and the shingles would terminate just above the cap in front of a small flashing.

I personally tend to generally prefer contrast, but I think this looks very nice. Certainly not something that anyone but you will look at and think it needs changed. :) Enjoy!
