Testing Range Hood

I had a chance to get a good deal on a range hood (KOBE CH2230SQB-5), but it will not be installed within the return window. The manufacturer says it should be temporarily wired and tested (light on, fan on) before installing. I want to test it, to be sure it's not DOA, within the return window.

Is it okay to just temporarily wire it with a replacement plug long enough to turn it on?? Or is this a job for an electrician??

Thanks!!
