saturn.....you should expect pests to visit your plants, because they will! Leaf miners, aphids, spider mites, fourlined plant bug, and others are common visitors.

I am a firm believer in and practitioner of simple inspection and hand removal of pests and their eggs and larvae. Second in the routine gardening tasks is the use of strongish directed sprays of water to physically remove aphids and spider mites.

On the other hand, I've never had any pest or disease issues on thyme, oregano or rosemary or other tough leaved Mediterranean aromatics like sage or bay. Aphids on basil sometimes but not a big problem.

I get spit bugs occasionally on chives and parsley - easily blasted off with a stream of water - but like floral's experience, nothing much of anything bothers my oregano, thyme, rosemary, salvia or other Mediterranean herbs.

Much like deer will avoid these plants due to the very strong aromatic oils they contain, they seem to repel most insect pests as well.

I agree. A spray of water at the most.
