Nursery blackout curtain dimension?

Hello There!

First time home owner and mom here!

My baby boy room have a sunny window and I'm trying to figure out the correct curtain dimension for the window.

Ceiling: 10 ft

Window dimension: 35 w - 71 h

What size rod do I need?

Do I need 2 curtain panels or one will cut it?

Length of curtain?

*** Leave you curtain color suggestion :) (Rug is light blue and gray)

Thank you.

Curtains should be 2-2 1/2 times the window width so you need 2 panels that are approximately 87 1/2" wide. Have you thought of roman shades with blackout lining?

consider if you want them to open all the way off the rod, then the rod has to extend beyond the window on both sides.

a roman shade has the benefit of not being 'pullupableon'..... which panels will be. and shorty panels .... don't go there.

I would buy a blackout louvered shade and mount it outside bracket, that is over the entire opening. Order it somewhat larger than the opening to eliminate light bleeding in from the sides. Its to small of a window to use blackout drapesIMO

I agree with Jan, if you can avoid blackout do. Cordless shade.

I like short, colourful curtains for a kid's room. They are youthful and easy for kids to manage on their own as they get big enough. For your little one I would find a simple print that coordinates with the carpet so they can be used for a decade at least.

I even still like valances in a nursery (GASP, the horror...). There is something so childlike and innocent about them. Maybe that's why they are out of favour for decor at the moment.

I use to install and whenever I installed black outs, it was never enough, There was slivers of light bleeding in from the bottom or sides. Customers that wanted dark wanted total darkness, it never ceased to amaze me. I don't think that babies are that particular, it seems like an adult thing. But we want what we want.

I think the rod should be about 4 feet wide gives you about 6 inches on each side so you can pull curtains to the side. One curtain could work if it was wide enough (4' if you go with that rod size) but would not look good IMO. If you are leaving that shade in the window you could maybe go with a dark grey or dark blue curtain instead of a black out and it would still darken. for height you have to figure how much space is below the window and account for the rod being mounted higher than the window. guessing from the picture you will probably need 95" inch long curtains
