..posting photos...

For those of us who like to post photos of our roses, it seems you can only submit a post with 4 pictures at a time, instead of the 10 it used to be [..upgrade?..]

If you want to post more than 4 you have to carry on into the next comment with another 4... and so on..

I don’t like that at all, I’m very frustrated right now.

I've always disliked Houzz but that really puts the frosting on the cake. Such a useful feature for us!!!

I've just noticed someone has posted 10 photos on another thread, so I wonder if one needs to reduce the size. I tried earlier and they didn't go through, and the FAQ says 4... so now I've really no idea...

Cori Ann, I agree with you, I think the triple forum posting is a good one and I tried to do it earlier, but it didn't work with 10 photos. I also agree that it's a good idea to scatter the photos to other appropriate forums in the hope that others might be drawn in to growing roses too...

I do wonder if my photo file size is too large but I might try again later...

    thanks...

Could be. I’m loading mine from an iPhone. :-)

Cori Ann, what version is your iPhone? Thanks! Carol

Cori Ann, … gorgeous photos, I especially like the Summer Romance vase... I didn't see them before when I first read your post and replied to it... I had been wondering if perhaps using an iPhone might make a difference, so maybe I should try that in future... thanks for the tip...

Hi Marlorena, I have no idea what size photos come off an iPhone, but if you or someone tells you, is it possible to resize your photos on your computer to the same, guess a guess on the 10 photo idea

Hi David, thanks for your reply.... I've tried resizing my photos by cropping them, but it still won't take the 10, so what I've done is post 5 and it took those 5, then I posted another 5 as a second comment and it took those too. They are not on this forum but 'Gardening in the UK', which is rarely visited but that's where I wanted them to go..

So, at least I know I can do 5 + 5 but not 10 straight off....

It would probably be easier from an iPhone, it seems to me that's what this new system has been designed for - I still use a digital camera... thanks again...

Hi Marlorena, is the site just called "Gardening in the UK', ?, I might have a look

It could be that some devices default to images with fewer pixels and then attach those smaller density images to the ARF posts. Those would load more quickly and easily. When there is a way to choose "actual size" or something less pixel rich, I've been choosing less pixel rich. I haven't tried posting images in the last few days, though, so maybe everything is different now. Carol

David, it's one of the Houzz forums here, but finding it is like searching for a needle in a haystack... thanks for taking a look, if you have the time, [link below] but you may have seen them all before if you've looked at my photos recently...

There are not many people on the Australian Houzz forum either these days I think, we're all on here now..

Marlorena, you are right not many on the Australian site and I think the home site will have less posts due to the change, I posted in the UK site.

    Carol I have an iPhone 8. :-)

I have been using just my cell phone on this forum for a few years. It automatically put me onto the "mobile" version for a while. I can only post 4 pics at a time and it won't let me comment between photos. So I have been confused about the different formats for different users for a while. I also have issues searching for older topics and if I want to look up specific items on the threads I cannot find what I want as easily.
It also won't let me edit posts! By the way my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Edge.

Weird. I can edits posts, search, comment, post photos etc.

I’m not in the mobile app. I’m online (using safari) while using my iPhone. It is different now, but I think I like it.

I also noticed that if you go to the main menu, then “Advice” and “Gardenweb Discussions” you can see all the recent discussions on any topics you follow. I like that! For instance, I follow...

...Since that’s what I’m interested in.

It’s nice to see posts all in one place from all the forums I’m interested in. It is marked next to the title to show the forum the post is from and the person who posted it. I like being able to quickly see what forum it is about and what type of post it is. I haven’t used the mobile app yet through, so I don’t know if that is different. I use my iPhone or iPad, but just get to it from the internet browser (safari) instead of using the mobile app.

To me, it looks like this when I see all the posts from the topics I’m interested in...

Thanks Cori Ann, I hadn't realised you could do that, the bit about Advice then Gardenweb Discussions... I like that too now.. as I also follow a number of forums, like Shrubs, Camellias etc... and now I can see all the latest posts on these...

Cori Ann, thanks for the phone info! I think age of device/OS/browser makes a difference. My phone is an old iPhone 5S. Like you, I use a browser (Safari), not an app. I'll try posting photos again later from my new laptop to see how it goes now that the dust has settled. Figuring out how to locate Gardenweb under Advice is key. I think it would have been helpful if Houzz had hooked up users with instructions about accessing favored forums instead of ambushing us. Perhaps next time there's an "upgrade," an introduction will precede and accompany the changes. Thank you for the screen shots! Visuals are great! Carol

I only posted one photo with my post, that was just a test and it didnt post the one photo. It was s few days ago, maybe the have gotten more kinks out. I will try again later. I do like the feature where you can post in more than one place, however there is not always a need to do so...there should be a way to opt out..

Alana you don’t have to post in more than 1 forum, bu you can... so you can opt out by just posting in 1 if you choose. :-)

I hope you’re able to post photos soon!

    :-)

ok.... anyone still looking in here, you will see I have just posted 12 consecutive photos without issue. So I think if you are starting a new thread and want to post say 10 pictures or more, the way to do this is to make your first post about what you are posting, and then put all your photos as the 2nd comment, this way it seems you can include any number of photos, and just click on the 'submit' button as we used to.

The main problem for me was trying to include 10 photos at the start of a thread, where you go through the 'Next' procedure and pick a forum to post on, that just didn't work - everything vanished off the screen - this does work...

I should add, I am not using an iPhone, but this is on my laptop computer and all my photos were taken with a digital camera, not a mobile phone camera...

I think the issue is the size of the photos. I’m on my phone almost exclusively (iPhone 10) and cannot post more than 4 photos. Not in the original post or the subsequent comments. I’m also unable to place a photo and then type something underneath then post another photo. All my typing must go above or below all photos. And it was also shuffling my photo order.

So if we post images that are not large or pixel rich in the comment area below the first post, it will probably work, right? Carol

Yesterday I tried to post multiple photos. I re-size mine, so they are smaller and I was actually able to put 21 in one post. I could've added more, but decided to try that. It sat there loading and loading and loading. Must've been 10 min. I finally aborted it. Then I tried 10 photos. That sat there loading and loading, until I decided to abort that post after 5 min. I'm not happy about that. It never took that long to load in the old forum's format. Ridiculous.
