I'm not usually one to suggest white, but the dining room, especially, would look great in white. The way the ceiling cuts off the wall over the window makes that patch of color look weird, so even if you go with something other than white for the wall, I would paint that section over the window to match the ceiling.

It looks very busy! I take it this isn't any of your furnishings and kitchen stuff right? Just removing all of that stuff from the top of the kitchen cabinets, etc., will brighten it up. And definitely remove that wallpaper ASAP. I like the idea the OP suggested, a white or an off white.

Prime it all in white. THen take your time deciding what new color paint you want. Often it's easiest to get rid of the colorful reflections caused by the current color by covering it all with fresh white primer.

Is that paint or wallpaper? Hopefully paint since I imagine that's easier than stripping wallpaper.

I really like decoenthusiaste suggestion to use Navajo White. I think if you go too cool with a true gray your cabinets are going to look pink.

It is a painting technique and really like the idea of white, how do I pick a color that does not clash with the fireplace or window trim, ceiling, etc. I don't want to add anything, (crown molding) ..I love the windows and don't want to take away from them, really like a clean, simple and sharp look, my decorating style is coastal. Thank you so much pricklypearcactus, I would have never thought of that. (would hate to have pinkish cabinets, my husband would kill me! Navajo white, I'll check that out....thanks everyone! (Move in is August 1st and our painter is coming then and paint, due to him painting and our kids coming in from out of state to help us move, don't have the timing to reflect on color after all the prior family's furnishings are out.

I totally think a white paint would be amazing. A white paint that would be on the warm side so flow with the counter and the cabs.

Does this room face North, East? The direction of a room can change a color to look gray, green, purple hues or even warm yellows. The right white will make your space look gorgeous.

I love Super White by BM it is a sharp crisp cool color that looks nice with blues and grays even purples. But other great whites that might be on the warmer side are Dove Gray, Oxford White, Mayonnaise, Cloud White... Get some cardboard pieces and paint these various white options until you find the one you love in the space and light you have.

the back windows are north, then other windows are west, the door is east, lots of pine trees, The dining room table, kitchen and the sitting room with fireplace is all one room. I think white would be amazing too. Just wondering what white to use with the white trim and fireplace. I can't do much, except look at photos I have. I have painter scheduled the first day we can get into the house. So have to have my colors picked by end of July. I will have a lot of blues and greens in my decorating. I love the loose simple white drapes she has in the windows now. Looks crisp and cool and coastal. So want to get some white drapes too.

I would check to see what the trim paint color is and try to find a color that goes with that. I too am using lots of blue (Santorini Blue and Glass slipper ) and I went with Super White BM because I wanted a crisp clean white color. I love it so far.

In the house I am leaving----which sold in under a week I might add- I had similar cabinets in the kitchen. We painted BM Shaker Beige and it really worked beautifully. It's a great warm brightening color and looked great with the cabinets.

I SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED, that technique she has on the wall is a plaster that has lots of texture (like an Italian restaurant wall) does that change any of your opinions, the painter asked me if I wanted him to smooth it and since the house is Tuscany I said no, I just want to lighten the wall. BOXERPAL, is your trim also white? I don't know how to find out the exact color of the trim other to see it, the older lady that lives there now, does not know.

thanks about the cabinets, may do that a some point, right now on our budget and moving in, just going for the walls to be lightened.

Yes, I had the trim painted in my house all Super White by BM so that the kitchen cabs will match. Maybe the former owner has a sample of paint for you.
