Trying to grow hazelnuts in zone 9A near Ocala. I tried planting hazels I brought with me from up north, but they cannot take the heat. I have seen a couple of folks claim they have hazels growing, but not much in the way of details. They are my favorite nut, and fruit early and often! Anyone have advice on:

1) growing hazels in Ocala area

2) sources for southern hazels - preferably hybrids that have larger nuts

3) anyone growing exotics like Turkish hazel? I had 2 trees in MN and they were very pretty.
