Those are white cedar, Maibec shingles with factory applied Cabot bleaching oil. Another coat is applied after installation. You might have to apply another coat in 5 to 10 years. Depends on how much sunlight or salt air the house gets. If your house isn't near the ocean and shaded by a lot of trees, you'll be fighting black mildew. Cabot bleaching oil is great, but it can only do so much.

Are you saying you'll be fighting black mildew on untreated cedar, or if you apply bleaching oil? Just interested as we are planning to clad our house in cedar but we are surrounded by a lot of trees. Would like to achieve the bleached/silvery grey colour, but obviously concerned about black mildew!

Even on treated cedar, cedar that has a liberal coat of bleaching oil will struggle to keep mildew at bay in areas that face north and never see sunlight. Just don't let it get out of control. Some people will buy an inexpensive fruit tree sprayer at Home Depot and every other year spray problematic siding areas with a bleach/water mixture to kill off any mildew that might be starting to get a toehold.
