bathroom advice

Hello All,

We are quickly remodeling an older bathroom (the house is about 100 years old in northern NJ). The bathroom is app. 8'x10'.

For the tub/shower walls, we will install crisp white subway tile (3"x6").

For the rest of the bathroom, the walls will have the same subway tile going up 48".

The floor tiles are 12"x24" tiles with subtle gray and white pattern.

Regarding the tub, which is an alcove tub, enclosed on 3 sides, what style do you recommend if I'm looking for a more modern look but not wanting to disjoin the bathroom from the rest of the house? Also, can you recommend style for shower/bath fixtures?

The vanity and vanity faucet were ordered from houzz and pictured below:

Thank you so much.

Donna

Check out Kohler’s Bellweather alcove tub. Simple, clean lines. Cast iron. Good quality. Good luck!

Wow, thank you so much!! Patricia, you are right about the truck stop. I think I will forgo the walls!!! I love the 12x24 in the alcove, would you run them vertically? You suggest shower screen and not full sliding doors?

ptreckel, I will look at that - many thanks.

The house has to quickly go on the market and the contractor is in there now. Our home shoppers are millennial urbanites moving to the suburbs.

    Thank you again.

Tub is a go - thank you! Would you have a mirror over the vanity or a mirror with medicine cabinet? What's that thing called?

    Thank you, donna ;-)

If the only storage that you have in the bathroom is the vanity, I would go with a mirrored medicine chest.

I have the Bellwether tub and I would like you to know there are 2 versions. One is 32x60, with deeper tub. The issue is that both the front end and the back end are sloped. This takes up room for the bottom length. I have the 30x60 version which is standard in installation and has a straight front end and a sloped back end, like most tubs. The draw back is that it isn't very deep or wide. it does have a long bottom though. The height is like the Villager. It is a good tub size for a shower, in my opinion, because the sides are only 14" tall, IIRC.

I have my Bellwether installed in a vintage type remodel. I like it fine. Great size for bathing kids and dogs. Also I've taken my fair share of tub baths in it and it is ok, does the job. But if you want a soaking tub, the 30x60 tub is not it.

Enduring, I've always loved your truck stop bathroom! :)

Thank you, enduring. The tub is great but because of a fire in the Kohler factory that fires them (or whatever the process is), I can't get it for 2 months. The only comparable one that I can find in the price range is made by American Standard. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. I can't think of the exact name of the model.

@Catbuilder, lol, remind me why you are calling my BR a “truck stop bathroom”? Your comment sounds familiar but it’s been a while since I’ve posted the reveal. I’m dying to know.
