I posted a question in Advice and tried repeatedly to add a picture and the picture would not post. I am on a Laptop with Windows 7 and the photo is a jpg file.

Check the size of your image file. If you make sure they aren't any larger than 300 dpi they should upload easily. On a previous thread it was also mentioned that one of the responders had downloaded the HOUZZ ap for images and it worked without issue.

Thank you for the reply. I got it to work by loading the photo and then writing my comments. Did it this way twice and it worked fine. Same photo but just loaded it before the comment.

Emily, using my laptop and Firefox, I began a thread here today on which I wished to upload two pictures, The first photo worked but the second one stayed pale, which means it did not upload, and after waiting for half an hour I gave up. This has not happened lately, until today. I tried again, with the same result.

Same issues here on the web browser version. Photos not posting at all, taking too long to post or erratic about uploading. Sometimes, one will load up and post, and in the same comment box, another sits there, dimly waiting, and never fully uploading.

No way to see if a photo is uploading or just sitting there waiting to upload, indefinitely. That is really frustrating. How long does one sit there, trying to see if a picture is going to post? And how many attempts to post a photo should one have to make?

Running Google Chrome, up to date (Version 75.0.3770.100), on my MacBook 10.10.5, up to date, with an Intel Iris Pro graphics driver.

This photo loading issue has been going on for me for months now...

I wish Houzz would focus on getting their web version updates working properly first and foremost. It seems that while the apps for mobile devices get updated/changed, the web version is left to rot. Neither work well for me... but I prefer the web version, since the Houzz experience is, or should be, a visual one, and that has been terrible of late.

One cannot learn about design without seeing the design... discussions in text only aren't going to keep your users coming back...

FWIW, I find that if I reduce the size of photo files to 7-ins. at the widest dimension, and 300 OR LESS dpi, photos will load. They take a few minutes, but they WILL load.

I suspect it is incompetence -- and hence, annoying.
I found a solution that works for me -- though it's a bit of a hassle. But that solution isn't open to everyone.

And the other forum . . . It's OK, but there's far more interest there in modern roses, so less-inviting to me.

I would also add that while I can easily post pics there, it does also take a while and I can't see what I've posted til it's done. So I've had to delete the pics after posting a couple of times. It seems to happen randomly here for me.

jerijen, I messed around and indeed the size of the photo reduced to less than 72 dpi and halved or more in inches worked. That is a ridonkulous amount of work on the part of one trying to post one photo, let alone a series of photos... which is what one needs to be able to do to post dilemmas, ask qq's and share information through photos.

Ugh, and one must remember to size back up their files when they've posted, if one wants to preserve them in their original format on their device.

Pfft! Houzz, please fix this!

This thread expresses amply why I don't bother with trying to post photos ,why I just can't get motivated to get a new camera, etc.I already waste far too much time on Internet. I just amn't good at computer stuff, don't want to go through the irritation and frustration of learning how to post photos, only to have it not work, or the method change, etc, etc etc.

OTOH, I am a technological idiot and I can do it from my MacBook Pro i photo. You really could do it, Bart.

I'm with rredpenn and Bart on this: what a PIT! Ridiculous having to do this on a website that is supposed to be at least partly for posting photos. I've said it before and will say it again: Houzz is a commercial website for the purpose of selling endless amounts of junk. And I imagine they see the plant websites as not very commercially viable, so they don't put $$ into fixing it. That's the way our wonderful capitalist system works.

It did work before "the improvements". I'm sure it is the incompetence factor rather than intentional. Maybe they hired relatives.Still sad.

I feel confident it's imcompetence. They always blame our operating system, but I can actually post from my ancient laptop. It just depends what they are doing. I take most of my pics for documentation so I am happy to lose a bit of clarity to post easier. Thus, I just have adjusted my setting on my phone. If I want some beauty shots it's easy to change it back. This is much easier that downsizing each picture, but I understand why Jeri does so. She's taking the beauty shots and sometimes printing them if I recall correctly. If you're not doing that we don't need the best resolution to see how great things look or the features of a flower or bush shot.

Let me add to that wish list. It's impossible to use discussion threads when the comments now appear upside down in sequence. Beginning last night, the most recent posts appear at the top, and descend back through time rather than the way they should appear... The most recent comment(s) should appear at the bottom of the thread, in the order they were posted.
