It's an attractive bed. Whether it is the right one for you is a matter of personal taste and space.

Having been housekeeping a while myself, I empathize with your dilemma: I really wish I had not accepted my grandmother's solid maple bedroom set. It's beautiful but it's big and clunky and it's a full bed instead of a queen -- and that footboard is just … I n t h e w a y. While the highboy is useful, the lower, wider dresser w/bench (and attached undersized back mirror) holds very little for the amount of floor space it takes up and the maple bedside cabinet holds very little. Yet because it is a family heirloom, getting rid of it, at least while my Mom is alive, is simply not an option.

Were I starting from scratch,

Creating my bed would begin with a heavy metal frame (with wheels for being able to move it to make the bed and/or clean it). The frame would be a queen sized one (or at least one that is adjustable to two different sizes, including queen size) and the frame would have the brackets for attaching the headboard of my choice … ANY headboard … with the objective of having the option to swap out the headboard as my taste changes without needing to replace the entire bed.

My bed side "tables" would be a pair -- his/her -- of lockable wood two drawer filing cabinets with wheels (or three drawers -- a more shallow top drawer) for all those documents and photo albums and tax records it seems we all accumulate over time -- with room for personal items -- weapons/ammo, jewelry, camera, etc., and/or items children and/or other visitors have no business pilfering through: "at every party there is at least one person that opens the medicine cabinet" is a truism for a reason. (I'd have bought a second pair for my living room for use as end tables with secure storage, too.)

Any drawers for clothes storage would be tall chests of drawers -- a his/her pair with deep wide drawers to get the most storage space possible for the floor space used. I'd want a full length mirror (or a long one) attached to the back of my closet or room door rather than needing one above a dresser.

Note: Remember that you'll need to dust/clean whatever you choose so, unless you like cleaning, you probably don't want something really ornate and you probably don't want a fabric headboard much less footboard unless you keep your home climate controlled and totally dust free -- and you have no pets or small children.

suezbell, I think I must agree with the needs for locks. The last large party we had in our home was a heartbreaker for me as a piece of jewelry was stolen. I had an idea who might have taken it but of course never mentioned it to anyone. I had left it in a bedside drawer instead of securing it, so perhaps it was partly my own fault.

I really like a bed like that as well. I have a dresser that's fine. Space isn't much of an issue and the king adjustable base and mattress is new so definitely just need a king bed.

I do have concern with keeping a bed like above clean. I don't have pets.

The bed, dresser, mirror and night stand from the first pic would only cost me $999. I feel like it's such a good price it's hard to pass up but I also really love the full fabric look.

Sorry, I don't care if its FREE. Too much heavy matched stuff you will tire of in a big hurry, and reminds me of your granny. Buy an inexpensive upholstered headboard. A staple gun, and a few yards of fabric can change it up when you like. Add a tailored bedskirt.....or get an inexpnsive platform to set the mattress on. Tables at sides can be glass top, can be painted, can be wood can be whatever you want. Same with a dresser. Don't buy a sea of CLUNK!!!. for price, any price. As to locks? Put a small safe in a closet and bolt it down.

If you scroll through bedroom photos on houzz you will not see a single matching set of furniture. It’s just bad. Sets were designed by furniture stores to sell more furniture, not because it’s a good look. You can do better. Go to some other stores, and check your neighborhood postings. There are a million dressers and nightstands available for free or cheap that are in good condition or just need some paint. Fourth of July sales will be popping up too so you can take advantage of some deals.

I agree about the matching sets , as for the bed itself I think it is so over the top it looks cheap a nice simpler upholstered headboard without all the fancy trim would be a better choice for the long run. It would allow you to have any style night tables and dressers . I do not agree tall dressers are better than long lower ones in fact in a small space tall furniture closes it in.Once you have found the bed you love then go to the bedding store next , the bedding you love will set the tone and style for the rest of the choices.I have no idea if you have a male partner but if so blush and gold would not fly in my house for a shared bedroom so think about that too.

Taste is taste of course but I can't imagine wanting a full set of that furniture in my bedroom. Even the bed itself makes way too much of a strong statement for me. Do you want a modern lower type of platform bed or one that needs a standard box spring plus mattress.

Get the bed first. Whether you want a footboard really depends on the style. I had a bed with kind of a sleigh type of footboard and I hated changing the sheets because it was so hard to poke my hand in there - my current bed frame has a lower headboard and the mattress sits well over it so it's not a factor.

Look at photos of bedrooms you like - save them - and then analyze what it is you like. Any style of bed can be styled to a great extent to fit your personal taste - i.e. a four poster for example can read traditional or it can be styled to be boho or contemporary.

As others have posted, with your budget you are going to do way better for quality furniture buying used wood furniture. Beyond not being smart to buy a bedroom suite for style reasons, any set that costs $1000 is going to be a piece of garbage in terms of quality construction.

It looks cheap, and clunky and already dated! Don't fall for the low price; it equals low quality. You've received lot of good advice. Take it to heart!

Ok the set is out. I didn't love it but felt like I "should" since I could get multiple pieces for close to the bed size I want :)

my biggest issue with just buying a bed is I want something to cover my adjustable bed. So need the rails to be taller than many I'm seeing online.

and I am hung up on white tufted with wingback... but with a kid, that's prob not a good call.

Buy the head board alone, invest in a custom dust skirt. An adjustable height mattress is fraught with other contraptions. .......... a royal pain.

And your bed is YOUR bed. Not your kids, assuming they have their own. A great habit to start early, but WTH do I know? lol In a few years, they won't want YOU in their bed, or their room. Fair enough.

I think everyone agrees on the "no matching" set thing. As for the bed...Do you LOVE it? I mean really "LOVE" it? Because you're going to have it for a while and the tufted style and ornate wood designs are on their way out. And that set has a lot going on to it. Many different colors, styles, etc. And the gray is really going to tie your hands. Cleaner lines are in now. Respectfully, to me, when I look at that bed, all I see is 2013. I'm replacing all my ornate "swirly" furniture in my rentals now. And I bought inexpensive tufted headboards because I knew that style wouldn't last long. I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred for it, as I know I would be replacing it in a few years.

I'm glad you have decided against that bed. In a king size, it would require a really huge bedroom with high ceilings to feel right, IMO. the problem with shopping in furniture stores is most of them are huge spaces without walls, warehouse height ceilings, and you can't get a sense of proportion if you don't have that skill yourself.
Could you post your room dimensions , maybe a photo of a sketch with doors, etc, and what pieces you really want and need in the room?
I think that would help the many people here who offer great advice.

Not to hijack but are upholstered headboards/bed frames out as Ja Doe declares. I thought they were considered to be classic.

The theft was the fault of the thief, lovemrmewey. Empathy for your loss. Lessons learned. sigh.

@Helen...TUFTED headboards are not "out" as of yet, but they're on their way out. I wouldn't buy another TUFTED headboard at this point. But they probably have a good couple of years left. But upholstered headboards are always "in" if I'm not mistaken (which is highly possible ;-) I think it's the way the fabric is sewn (designed) that dates an upholstered headboard...IMHO ...Maybe it's just me....but I'm sick of seeing tufted headboards in every house I go to....I'm just over it :-)

That shows a queen bed but I have a split king adjustable now (the one thing that I don't want removed). The adjustable bed is why I was thinking a foodboard- to cover up if the foot is left raised a bit

carpet- I feel like is neutral enough and I honestly like carpet in a bedroom so prefer to leave it. I like a pretty rug but not sure about putting one on top of carpet

Theres a dresser (painted brown, I'll prob paint white or gray) on the opposite wall of the bed (about 6ft from the foot of the bed). There's another window (same size) a few inches from the centered picture on the wall, then there's about 5" of wall space past the window.

The entrance door is opposite the window that you can't see in the picture (where pic is taken from) and the door to the bathroom is beside the ottoman. (chair can be removed too).

Theres room between the two doors, between the windows, where the chair is or beside the window shown for a chest of drawers but I don't have/need one right now so I'm fine with just having the bed, dresser and two night stands.

Since you'll be in it when the foot of the bed is raised, a footboard may not matter, but here are some inspirations.

I do like matched sets, but this one looks like something of which you'd grow tired -- you've done the right thing by deciding to keep on looking. I'd say get something simple, wooden, and easy to clean (meaning not too ornate). Such a set can change with your bedding over the years.
