Your tree looks great with 3 instead of 5 branches. Just my oppinion.

I would have liked at least 4 but 5 would be better that way I could built a better looking tree and more productive. I don’t like tall tree’s. Young tree was grafted this winter 2018(February) while in workshop and pruned a few weeks ago.

Laura, where have you been. Out with the kids of course. Can do nothing now, have to wait till late winter to prune again, just the two branches. The center one got to leave that one alone. Let that one going straight up till about next June.

I'm not sure when you make a cut that you can dictate to the plant how many branches it should make. Are you saying you wished you had cut it further down toward the graft? You could try to pinch the top growths and hope that maybe it will branch along the trunk.

No, if your rootstock is short you will see a lot more new buds, then you can pick the ones you want and rub-of the rest.

This is what i have in mind, if all my tree's look like this one i'll be happy.

You can deadhead it at any time during the growing season and it will grow back in no time producing many side shoots from the trunk from which you can select which ones to keep. Just make sure you deadhead above the graft..

One disadvantage of keeping the branches too low is that they may touch the ground when loaded with fruit.

Some citrus like Xie-Shan has drooppy branches because they usely overload them self. It takes some doing to create a tree with stocky side branches to take a good load, that is my goal, no greenhouse for me. i live in a area with power outages.

This past winter read of two greenhouses with major set-backs, one just about completely wipe-out. This one greenhouse is a big one(72') Heater malfunction.

Then you get the ones that are embarrass to tell.
